I just want to praise and thank our moderators for keeping a watchful eye over our little community and keeping it a safe place for everyone. The recent unpleasantness addressed by King shows they care and are able to exercise wisdom and discretion without being heavy-handed in their efforts.

So, hats off to our moderators!!!

please tell me @King_Oni, what direction this thread took that got it finally removed?
the individual who has been banned had been up until now freely able to post inflammatory
and offensive material of which you personally were fully aware of and even stated that you
were "fine" with the content of his posts and allowed him to continue posting, even stating
just how clearly you see these posts,,,,,,,,but are somehow still cool with the content!

Oh, I'm not objecting the content of your posts, as I see the issue here about it clearly. It's just that it's becoming a back and forth between you two which shouldn't occupy the thread :)

and a wee smiley face.
in your post on free speech:

"Bringing up a seemingly taboo topic such as child pornography and brushing it off as anything but a terrible thing doesn't sit well with many members. It's disruptive in the most extreme way."

when you had not only been aware of this individuals postings on child pornography, but condoned it by stating you did not object to the content.

you go on to say in your free speech letter
"There are a few other topics that might not appeal to everyone because of how they were raised or where they currently reside. Gay rights don't sit well with everyone, some people might be a bit more conservative, and that's fine."

the only topic mentioned by name is gay rights.
are you seriously stating that the fundamental rights of gay people should be considered
as taboo as child pornography?

i believe it was irresponsible of King_Oni to allow and condone such content to be continually posted.

and a wee smiley face, WTF

HOW DARE YOU state in your letter on free speech:

"Bringing up a seemingly taboo topic such as child pornography and brushing it off as anything but a terrible thing doesn't sit well with many members. It's disruptive in the most extreme way."

when you had not only been aware of this individuals postings on child pornography, but CONDONED IT by stating you did not object to the content.

"There are a few other topics that might not appeal to everyone because of how they were raised or where they currently reside. Gay rights don't sit well with everyone, some people might be a bit more conservative, and that's fine. You're still welcome here, just try and respect peoples views on that. However, I don't think it's that far-fetched to have a handful of topics that are universally considered a problematic issue, and I've mentioned it before... child pornography is among those."

here you mention how some topics are taboo.

the only topic mentioned by name is GAY RIGHTS!
are you seriously stating that the fundamental rights of gay people should be considered
as taboo as child pornography!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my life and many others here have been heavily impacted, indirectly or directly through sexual abuse, and it was terrible of King_Oni to allow and condone such content to be continually posted.
i am SERIOUSLY OFFENDED by his free speech post and his lack of concern for
the membership of this community that has had to deal with the devastation of
sexual abuse.

You are reading way more into it than you should... There's a reason the thread with said statement has been locked, as I don't think it should be up for debate. This is how we (forum staff) dealt with it.

Questioning every single sentence and putting it on a scale is unneccesary IMO. Also, be glad we, as staff, took care of it. Or would you prefer we leave people like the individual who got banned going around on the forum?

I'm not going to discuss said statement I posted.

Also, by the amount exclamation marks in your post, I think your response is way too emotionally biased and unless you're able to form a rational response that's not colored by a lot of scalding and screaming, I'm not going to deal with this. Get rid of that emotional bias and I might be able to have a calm and rational conversation here...

Here's a thought thought; instead of complaining how I haven't stepped in earlier on the topic. Has it occured to you that I might not have been overly active in the last few days (for whatever reason) and busy not to read a full thread. However, when I got word of the thread, I took time to read it and didn't hesitate to take it down. Let's put it differently; I'm the bad guy? There's a full team of staffers here, but because I care shed some light on the issue, suddenly I'm the bad guy.

Really, get of your crate and consider a few other things without you screaming here...

If this is the kind of behaviour a bit of transparency evokes when it comes to troublesome threads of which I, or any other staffers choose to speak out, consider this to be the last time we offer any kind of transperancy, since clearly it's not welcome by some people. We apparently will be policed on how we word something, and people will take everything literal while totally missing the clue, we're trying to make.

The community thanks you for closing this door... (oh, and here's a wee little smiley face for you :) )

PS; feel free to contact the other admin or staffers... I'm done for now and not open for any further replies about this.

I'm sorry this thread has seemed to elicit such emotion, as its original intended purpose was to express MY thanks and praise to all the moderators and not single out just one. I mentioned King because of his action to quell a situation that was escalating; the OP's other posts were evidence of that. Such action, not taken lightly, is what keeps Aspies Central and safe and enjoyable place for everyone.

Rather than have this thread turn into something ugly, I've asked that it be locked.

I apologise, Sportster. I was out of line posting in your thread.

i am sorry Sportster for making my statement on your thread.
i think the rest of the moderators here do an excellent job and deserve
acknowledgement and praise for the time and effort they put into providing
such a safe, transparent and friendly atmosphere for us.

However i believe King_Oni dropped the ball big time by condoning the
offensive content being posted by a member here. King_Oni did not point
out to this individual that the content of his posts were not appropriate,
this individual had very poor comprehension and actually asked outright
"what it was that he was posting could get him in trouble" King_Oni stated
that the content of his posts were fine which led this individual to continue
to post similar inflammatory and offensive subjects and his banning from
the site.

i believe it is important to acknowledge the good work that our moderators
put in for this site and agree with Sportster that a thread to offer our thanks
is a wonderful idea.
i also believe it is irresponsible to not point out when a moderator has done
something wrong and in King_Oni case i believe his mishandling of this situation
deserves to be highlighted. i also believe his post regarding free speech should
be reworded as in its current wording it is very offensive to the gay community.

i was angry and emotional when i posted my message here and have edited out
many of the exclamation points, i still stand by it's content however.

this community has become something of a family to me and i strongly believe
to grow stronger members need to not just hoover up the praise but also
acknowledge their mistakes.

A good rule of thumb in maintaining good relations and the lines of communication open is 'Praise in public, Criticize in private'.

i personally believe that leads to an unhealthy community.
thank you for your feedback Tom

Perhaps I am operating from a place of naïveté as usual; I feel our community can have open public discussions even when the going gets a bit rocky & tough.

I VERY strongly agree.

Please, I started this thread to acknowledge our moderators. Despite some of the disagreements on the way things were handled in other threads, this thread was not started to discuss or debate those issues. Please respect the original premise of this thread and discontinue the discussion about the "free speech letter." That would be better served in a thread of its own.

Thank you.

With respect Sportster er: I understand your discomfort here, however, I do not need to be instructed as to how to proceed with my communication. I would very much like to finish the discussion. And, thank you.

i believe it implies gay rights to be as offensive as child pornography and i believe this reflects very poorly on the community.
No...I think the meaning was exactly the opposite. I think he was contrasting them. I think what he meant was that there are some things that can be talked about despite the fact that some people might get offended, some things where people can agree to disagree, and he used gay rights as an example of such things.

And there are other things that are simply unacceptable. And child pornography is in that category.

King_Oni, you can tell me if I interpreted that correctly. tree, I'm tagging you since you were curious. tachyon, I'm tagging you since you're part of this conversation too.

I don't think qwerty was complaining about the thread being locked (nor how tardy that action was taken) - he had an issue with you condoning a statement by the banned member regarding images of children.
Questioning every single sentence and putting it on a scale is unneccesary IMO. Also, be glad we, as staff, took care of it. Or would you prefer we leave people like the individual who got banned going around on the forum?
Again - qwerty was not complaining about an individual being banned, but rather the reaction to his (?) comments.
I'm not going to discuss said statement I posted.
Very mature :)

I didn't see qwerty's response as emotional screaming. Please point to the emotive words in his post.

Again - qwerty was not criticising the tardy removal of the thread (and member) he was criticising your acceptance of that members premise (i.e.: that you had no problem with the content of his post).

This paragraph seems to be closing the door on genuine transparency.
The community thanks you for closing this door... (oh, and here's a wee little smiley face for you :) )
Sarcasm? Perhaps not appropriate for such a serious matter.

I believe the juxtaposition of those two issues is totally inappropriate.

Please do not use this thread to debate moderator actions.
Please open a private communication with all staff to discuss this.
