Desperately Seeking Diagnosis

Hi all. My name is Cloud and I guess you could call me a self-diagnosed aspie. It is clear to me and my family that I'm not exactly neurotypical. I've never been "normal", and neither is my family. I was held back in preschool. I was labeled dyslexic in the third grade. I went to a "special" school for middle school and enrolled in the resource program (another name for special education) in high school. And then about five years after finishing high school, I went to see a neurodiversity counselor at a place called EvoLibri. What a relief.

After hearing more about ASDs and the incredibly broad spectrum, I started doing research on Asperger's in adults. For the past year now, I've been searching for an official diagnosis and what it would mean for me. I've made a lot of progress. But it's really slow going. My hope is to have an official diagnosis and a definite explanation before I turn 30. Here's hoping.

Welcome Cloud to aspie central. I do not know how it works where you are. your story sounds
similar to me.

There members that will be able to help you further in getting a diagnosis where you are, I was diagnosed very late (last year at 48).

It might take several attempts. I think you may learn as much here as going to a specialist. Here
it is first hand experience, rather than observation.

Welcome! Good luck on your search for a diagnosis, I don't have one yet either but I've heard so many good things about the experience of having one.

Hi cloud and welcome,
Diagnosis or not, there's nothing but acceptance here.
Cheers
Turk

I spent most of my life unaware I had ASD. I was finally diagnosed a few years ago while in college. So it's definitely possible for you to receive a diagnosis, too.

Welcome. :D

Welcome, cloud! As has been said, you may be able to find many answers here, and of course you are free to ask whatever you like. Some of us are officially diagnosed, some self-diagnosed, and some not on the spectrum at all, but we ALL share some (if not all) of the same experiences.

Welcome to AC Cloud. Hopefully you'll find even more answers right here. I remain self-diagnosed myself...

Welcome Cloud :)

I'm self-diagnosed as well; hoping to make it more official one day.

This place is a wonderful resource for information, and like-minded people, so feel free to ask any questions you may what answers to. I hope you manage to get the diagnoses you want by your goal date.

Hey, Cloud. Welcome. I'm Angie. I guess you could say I'm bi-aspie (my own word) - part Aspie and part NT - I have traits from both sides, never diagnosed. And yes, at times I can be grumpy and that's why I love Grumpy Cat.
