    Sensory things that are irritating

I hate labels in clothes, especially papery ones. I can't wear lace or wool as I find them both itchy. I never wear hairy things/fur/fake fur. It can be embarrassing when I get presents and the person wants me to try it on. I was so relieved when I got my diagnosis and found out that this is...

    What's your excuse?

If all the music ensembles performed in the same concert the dressing rooms wouldn't hold all the performers waiting to play. Why are spectacles always dirty no matter how often I clean them?

Are people with ASDs picky eaters?

I'm not picky in terms of what I will eat. However when I am full I stop eating. This isn't a problem when I serve myself but can be a bit embarrassing going out for dinner to other people's homes. I actually feel sick if I try to eat beyond being full.

    What's your excuse?

That's where the zoo animals on day release are going to sit. Why is my washing taking ages to dry?

Voice in head while reading = no more comprehension, massive slowdown

Ive always had a voice in my head when I read. I specifically realised it when I was reading something by Alan Bennett. It was biographical and I realised that the voice in my head was his voice. I sometimes find it easier to read out loud in private.

How do you compare your sensory issues now to how they were when you were younger?

I think mine might be the same as before but I recognise them as sensory issues. I find wool or lace impossible to wear if they are touching my skin at all. I used to try on or be given clothing made from wool or lace. I'd know I looked nice in the clothes and got frustrated that I felt awful...

Fear of failure if I get a job

Thank you both for replying. If I'm honest with myself often it isn't that anyone else actually criticises me. I criticise myself more than anyone else ever does. I'm being hard on myself right now, telling myself that I am stupid and useless because I haven't just made the job application...

Fear of failure if I get a job

Has anyone else been unable to work due to depression or problems with perfectionism/finding it hard to deal with criticism? I have had to resign from my last two jobs due to breaking down. Each time it was due to depression/breakdown. This happens when I am afraid I have made mistakes or have...

    Autistics and Foreign call centres

I find call centres very frustrating but i don't feel more frustrated than NTs that I know. I find automated voices more upsetting if the computer can't understand them.

What Would You Do If You Could Be An NT For 1 Week ???

I probably wouldn't choose to do this. I know that many people accept and are proud of being Aspie/Autie and others are just not bothered. I don't much like being an Autie (maybe a few years ago I would've been diagnosed Aspie but they aren't using the term here at the moment so I don't...

    How do you stim?

I rock when I am upset, anxious o or depressed. If there are other people around then it is very gentle, so only I know it's happening (and possibly my parents). If I am alone I am more likely to rock hard, as this is a time when I will allow myself to experience the pain and depression.

How much do you see your relatives?

I frequently see my parents, I have to as they are very much my emotional support and give me a lot of practical help as well . I wish but I wasn't so lonely. I see other relatives pretty regularly, bearing in mind that they live pretty far away some abroad. For the ones living abroad I'm all...

Zero Tolerance for Autistic Student at Senior Prom ?

I think this is very sad. There is no excuse if the school was not addressing bullying as the family says they did. Actually part of my own problem is following rules too closely. I see that the family were sent a list of rules and it says that if they had contacted the school in advance it...
