What Aspies Must Understand About Their Feelings

Neurotype isn't race, that statement cannot be racist because it doesn't deal in race. Just wanted to point that out because it's a really bad idea to call something racist when race isn't actually involved. I think all this attention on whether or not you "meant" to hurt someone is...

Are Aspie Minds always in Overdrive ? It's long term effects ?

Hmm... I don't think I'd call what I experience overdrive? I mean unless you consider an old computer whirring and blowing air just to keep up "overdrive." But I don't feel like I think more rapidly or effectively than NT folks. I really feel the opposite. My mind feels like it's slogging...

An email I just got and thought Aspies would appreciate

Oh god that was my first assumption on reading that too! I thought "well that's kind of a non-sequitir, what a weird e-mail" until I realized he wasn't being literal haha LOL that was hilarious! So funny I flapped my arms pretty much the entire time watching it. :P Thanks for sharing!

    Aspies and good hearing ?

Oh my god YES, when I was a kid I'd hide inside when the neighbors would fire off fireworks, even though I really wanted to see them. It sucked. :( I'm more able to deal with it now, but I still can't go to a gun range and I always have to brace myself if I know a loud noise is about to happen...

What Are Your Biggest Burdens and Gifts of Having Asperger's Syndrome?

Burdens: Not understanding how to initiate in social situations and having social anxiety, constantly fearing that I'm being rude or crossing a line. Misinterpreting people's feelings and intentions constantly (i swear everyone who isn't smiling is mad at me) The fear that people can see my...

Buzz or high-pitched noise in head

Oh, I get the same, but not very often. But for me it's like a sudden false alarm that I'm about to roll off of whatever I'm lying on, and I'll jerk involuntarily as a defense mechanism. Then I realize I'm completely surrounded by flat surface.

Buzz or high-pitched noise in head

I get tinnitus as well, often when it's quiet. The ear ringing is often accompanied or preceded by a buzzing sensation in my head, sometimes enough to cause a slight headache or dizziness. For me I think it often has to do with caffeine or sugar overload, but not always. Might be caused by...

Are animals and children attracted to you?

I've noticed recently that kids seem to like me a lot even though I get really awkward and confused around them and don't always know how to interact. They speak quickly and don't articulate, and my slow processing doesn't quite mesh with that. Also I'm just not that imaginative on the spot...

    Listmaking

Same, lists are comforting but they only seem to help marginally. I guess they're easier (and more fun) to make than to actually implement, haha.

    Desperately Seeking Diagnosis

Welcome! Good luck on your search for a diagnosis, I don't have one yet either but I've heard so many good things about the experience of having one.

    Aspies and hugging

Same. There are even times when I'm feeling emotionally overloaded and lonely and not having someone around to embrace just makes everything so much worse. I feel abandoned and unloved. I'll totally accept anyone who wants a hug, but I never think to initiate them. It just never occurs to...

    What Were Your Past Obsessions?

I was just thinking about this the other day when putting together a list of my aspie traits. I remember my earliest being organ systems in human anatomy, mainly the digestive system. I don't know why, it just fascinated me. I've always fixated on animals, for the most part cats, but also...

    Do you talk to animals?

I've always mimicked animals, particularly cats and dogs. When I was a kid I would even bark just for fun, to the point that I'd fool others into thinking there was an actual dog around. I like to copy cats even now. I do this too. I also have a habit of "narrating" animals, kind of like...

    Color Obsessions

Anyone else here have intense fascinations with specific colors and color combinations? I've been obsessed with pink for years and as an artist I tend to latch onto various color schemes involving pink. I'm to the point where I feel like I have a deep, spiritual, meaningful personal connection...

Do you ever unintentionally stare at people?

Right? I get nervous a lot because I don't know how much to look at any given person. I've developed this thing where when I look at someone I do so in a sweeping motion or immediately look the opposite direction because I'd rather look away too soon than stare. But that's probably because I...
