Need a list of Aspie traits for GP appointment

My experience: 1. Asked GP for a referral, got laughed at (literally). 2. Called Autism West Midland's , http://goo.gl/kYXFKg they sent me out a pack to take back to my GP. This included an NHS recognised AQ test. 3. Referral made to neuropsychology. 4 letter arrived from neuropsychology saying...

Need a list of Aspie traits for GP appointment

I did an online AQ test, printed of the test results and used that to convince my GP I needed a referral. Are you based in the UK?

Are these experiences common to aspies?

I would really appreciate people's feed back, I want to know if the following are common experiences for aspies or is it just me? 1. People tend to confuse my lack of participation in small talk, and conversation in general with low intelligence. The same people also get terribly upset when I...

    Restructuring possible redundancy

I guess I'm just going to have to roll with the punches. There's a complex story behind my problems, which having thought about it, can't be ignored; time to fight fire with fire.

    cant swim

Back in the 1980's I'm sure it was in the school curriculum. I suppose it could have been different if you didn't live in a costal town like Perth or Fremantle. Swimming was definitely one of the most popular sports and I honestly can't think of a single person I knew in school who couldn't swim.

Can autism be a learning disability?

Just found some interesting stats in an unrelated search http://goo.gl/JSNMAb 60-70% of people who have an autistic spectrum condition will also have a learning disability. Kind of sounds plausible?

    cant swim

I can swim, I grew up in Australia, which is the type of country where it is almost mandatory to learn to swim.

do you use a mattress cover

We've got a mattress protector on, had to find just the right one though, as anything that I could feel under the sheet would drive me nuts.

    Restructuring possible redundancy

So today the company I work for announced the second restructuring in 24 months. I now face an up hill struggle to apply for a brand new role or face redundancy after nearly 10 years of hard work. I'm worried what impact my recent referral for ASD will have. My ASD has caused me a few problems...

Can autism be a learning disability?

That's an excellent question. I am a support worker for adults with learning disabilities, the majority of our clients are on the autistic spectrum. I think there is a lot of comorbidity and very often autism is not the main cause of learning difficulties. Technically I suppose any condition...

Which do you think is more accepted, Autism or Mental Illness?

I think most people use the terms interchangeably, I would just say I have Aspergers and I don't like being touched.

    The purpose(s) of talking...

I'm exactly the same, I don't really do conversations except when circumstances force me to, and even then I don't do them very well. Even trying to exchange information is challenging when the other person isn't receptive, this happens a lot at work. I don't have any friends (my long term...
