I am blown away by this track and also the way Bowie handles the lyrics. I'm curious as to how many of you people "dig" it. I've been a Pat Metheny fan for some time now from before he did this track with Bowie (in the eighties). He also inspires my own music experimentation as a lot of Pat Metheny group tracks are instrumental.
I also like the video part and the subtle chord changes. The song is from a film that deals with espionage and somehow Bowie worked with PMG to make this track for the movie.

I vaguely remember listening to this song in the mid-1980s (I think it was released in 1985) and this is the first time I've heard it since the late 80s. My sister was a huge fan of Bowie back then and that must have been how I first heard it. It is a beautiful song and like a lot of music from that era it is very glamorous, romantic and enigmatic.

It was written by Pat Metheny who did a lot of jazz fusion material with Lyle Mays. The concept of working with Bowie was unusual for the Pat Metheny Group as they have a specialist, not mainstream following. I always admired both Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays and have followed their sound for some years. Later on, Bowie did his his own version of This Is Not America and Pat teamed up with a Polish female artist Anna Maria Jopek who also did vocals for this song.
Have always been keen on the pan pipes very typical of Metheny's early stuff.
