Your holiday decorating schedule

I did a thread about Halloween decorations, but I wonder if users here decorate for other holidays. I decorate outside with colored light bulbs for several holidays, and I have a typical decorating schedule for them. I wonder if users here have a typical decorating schedule for certain holidays. Here is my holiday decorating schedule.

  • Valentine's Day - Weekend after New Years to Weekend after Valentine's Day. Decorated with Red and Pink light bulbs.
  • St. Patrick's Day - Depending on the date of Easter, this may be skipped certain years. If Easter falls on a late date, it will be the weekend after Valentine's Day to the weekend after St. Patricks' Day. Decorated with Green light bulbs.
  • Easter - Depending on date, if occurring on an early date, I will start the weekend after Valentine's Day, while if occurring on a late date, I will start the weekend after St. Patrick's Day. Both will run through the weekend after Easter. Decorated with Yellow and Pink light bulbs.
  • Fourth of July - Memorial Day Weekend through the weekend after the Fourth of July. Decorated with Red, White, and Blue light bulbs.
  • Halloween - Weekend after Labor Day through Weekend after Halloween. Decorated with Orange and Black light bulbs.
  • Thanksgiving - Weekend after Halloween through Black Friday. Decorated with Orange, Yellow, and Red light bulbs.
  • Christmas - Black Friday through Weekend after New Years. Decorated with Red and Green light bulbs.

My dad will put up the Xmas Decor (Tree, Garland and a couple other things) around the 3rd week of November iirc; Halloween stuff goes up around the beginning to near-Mid October

I don’t decorate for any holiday. I don’t really celebrate commercial holidays anyway.

Just Christmas for me. But I kind of hate the effort required so I just do a little a day starting sometime after Thanksgiving. I do like it once it's all up, especially the lights. My ideal situation would be to just leave them up all year. I was in the hospital a lot and played the sympathy card the last two years and had them up till April last year and - a new record - June!, this year. :D

What schedule? There's still a small Christmas tree up in the living room, and lights across the front from a few years ago, that were never taken down. And I don't even live in a trailer park. XD
We DO NOT do Halloween and only dye a few eggs for Easter...cause I like playing with colors....

I'm middle aged and our kids are grown (well, the last one is in college) and we have some young grandchildren. I used to decorate for the major holidays, including Mardi Gras which is a holiday where I live, for the sake of our kids. I did the standard decorating, nothing too flashy or over the top, no outdoor lights except lighted wreaths on the house front door and on the barn door.

For the past several years, my husband and I have left the country for several weeks at Christmas, usually to Mexico, where Christmas is a fairly quiet religious holiday and you rarely see decorations except for American and Canadian expats who live there. I take a couple of small strings of battery-operated lights in our luggage and drape them over something like a couple of palm leaves stuck in a big vase just so it feels like Christmas. I've never seen Christmas trees for sale in Mexico and wouldn't buy one anyway. The Mexican Santa Claus and his apparently inebriated elves ride in the back of an old pickup truck down the main street on Christmas Eve which always cracks us up.

I still put out some small decorations for the major holidays, have X-mas gifts and stockings, Easter baskets, and Halloween candy for the grandkids. I do make a huge Thanksgiving feast for everyone because I like to cook. On July 4 if it's not raining, my husband usually shoots some fireworks for the g'kids while I stay in the house with the pets and watch through a window.

Decorating becomes less important as I get older. The only reason I still make some effort is due to the grandchildren. The worst part of decorating is always the cleanup afterwards.

I think they must have come to Texas a few times! :D

Too funny! Santa usually has no beard, wears an homemade Santa costume, and the elves wear jeans, Mexican cowboy hats and boots. I absolutely love it. Just thinking of the awful spectacle of Macy's T'day parade or Christmas 'pageants' or parades make me want to literally leave the country. So we do. LOL.

That's hilarious, what a picture in my mind, all the crazy carrying on, like off one of those old funny movies! XD
Yeah, I never cared for the parades, myself. LOL

I start decorating Black Friday (day after thanksgiving for those that don't know) for Christmas, because I sure as heck won't be anywhere near a commercial store, with crowds of people, noise, & commercialism! Tree goes up first weekend in December. Tree comes down first weekend after New Years. I don't decorate for other holidays.

I don't decorate for Christmas at the Flat (mainly because I spend most of that week up at Mum and Dad's).

I put my Halloween decorations up at the start of October and plan to put the Christmas ones up on Dec. 1st. I also have Easter decorations although it can be hard to decide when to put them up when the holiday is in the middle of the month. I like to use the holidays as a way of showing off my creativity and many of my decorations are hand made.

I'd like to start decorating for Christmas now, but am planning on waiting till after Thanksgiving. It is the only holiday except birthdays that I decorate for.

Go to Walmart for a preview.:D

I went shopping the other day and was surprised at how they have all the Christmas stuff out and Halloween hasn't passed.

I wonder when the best time to go to Walmart is...?

I didn't take the Christmas decor down last year until very late. I forget exactly when but no earlier then April I think. :D

I like those stores that specialize in Christmas all year round.
