New Research: Asperger Syndrome and Depression

At this point in time where quite a few <8 year old children get diagnosed with depression one can wonder how accurate that diagnosis is. Depression is a very overused term that by now describes anything from having a bad hair day to ready to jump off a cliff.

With new diagnosis system many high functioning people might be thrown overboard...

Re: With new diagnosis system many high functioning people might be thrown overboard. Here is the deal: Diagnostic criteria manuals are a collection of assumptions based on behavioral studies done decades ago. Slowly over time the basic assumptions became 'real' by devising self confirming...

    Gastrointestinal Issues in Aspies

All kinds of auto-immune afflictions are associated with AS en left-handed people. The prevailing theory is that is due to the suppression of the development of the left hemisphere by an abundance of testosterone in the mothers blood, the left being responsible for the immune system. I myself...

Times your AS kept you calm in a dangerous situation?

All the time. Been in a war situation, many a life threatening situation. Went through situations that would completely f up someone without much effort. (my wife died of cancer i cared for her at home and was present during her euthanasia, prepared her corpse myself for burial) I am very...

    What's your favourite dog breed?

Obviously only a Yorkshire Terrier, look a this little angel: Fearless, it just jumped up to bite the Danes nose. You can see the pony getting its head out of the way (was to high anyway):

How do you feel about APA eliminating Aspergers Syndrome as a condition?

Unfortunately i can only agree with reclassifying Aspergers. I just disagree it being reclassified as Autism Spectrum. It should be classified imo as a symptom of a genetically driven neurophysical change of the brain. Not behaving like a social mammal is a lifestyle, not a disorder. The...

Post a Recipe of your favourite food!

I buy half an italian Piemontese steers backside, freeze it in 400 gram portions and eat every day raw ground beef with white rice and unfiltered oliveoil from the local oilpress. Bit of salt and pepper. Delicious.

How do you feel about APA eliminating Aspergers Syndrome as a condition?

You did? I always thought quite the opposite. The criteria which 'make' TDFNAA (The Disorder Formerly Known As Aspergers) part of the autism spectrum are the about the same as those of schizoid personality, Avoidance personality disorder etc etc. The list is long. Just being not social about...

How do you feel about APA eliminating Aspergers Syndrome as a condition?

Aspergers still exists as a diagnosis, it's just now called just HFAutism. So that can hardly be the reason. The 'disorder' didn't disappear, it just got reclassified.

How do you feel about APA eliminating Aspergers Syndrome as a condition?

Since it isn't a 'condition' i guess i feel it's about time. The only problem is they don't. Aspergers get's qualified as Autism in DSM 5 and ceases to exist as such. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2695965/dsmv_aspergers_syndrome_to_be_eliminated.html From hence on we are in the...

    How to tell people....

You don't usually. Stigmatizing yourself isn't the way forward. Labeling yourself having a mental issue is the quickest way to getting treated like a retard.

    How do you dress?

I dress as cheaply as possible with absolutely no regard for fashion. Due to the climate here mostly elastic band shorts and shortsleeved tshirts. In 'winter' it's elastic band cotton pants with longsleeved tshirts. Mostly dark colors. In house i usually wear a nothing in summer and a djellaba...
