The best trips you ever took

Ireland- best trip I ever took. First time I ever officially left the US. I probably didn't even see a percent of what the country had to offer. Would love to go back someday.

DC/Pennsylvania- I live in California and had never been to the Mid Atlantic or Pennsylvania before. I love history and there is so much there. Would love to go back and see what I missed. It was a wonderful trip. Also went through the Virginias and Maryland. Spent a few nights in New Jersey.

San Antonio- On our way to visit relatives in the Dallas area. I loved seeing the Alamo and they had a great Fourth of July show there.

Louisiana- Close to where my relatives live. It was neat seeing all the steamships and casinos. Didn't see much in the way of bayous, however.

Nevada- Used to spend Christmas at Tahoe sometimes when my grandparents had a townhouse near there. Have also been down the Strip at least once. Never really went into the casinos. I did go to the Ponderosa TV set.

Oregon- We have friends there. We like going to Tillamook for their cheese and ice cream. They also have a neat air museum.

Washington state/Canada- Pretty up there. When we went to BC I liked seeing the cauldron. Wanted to go to Victoria but we missed all the good ferry times. I also liked driving by the football stadium and seeing the Needle from the freeway.

Hawaii- of course. I even got to spend Boy Scout camp there a few times. I liked going to Kona and climbing the volcano, where I refreshed in the steam vent after a tiring climb.

Orlando- Disneyworld and Cape Canaveral as a kid. Seeing the rocket ships was cool and the Gulf was nice and warm.

My latest is going to New England with my dad this September. Never been there either. Can't wait.

Honorable Mentions:

Grand Canyon- it was impressive, but I have a fear of unsupported heights
Tijuana- hardly counts since it's a border city; went there with the Boy Scouts
Palm Springs- best part was their walk of fame
San Diego- been in the area several times but only seen their major attractions a few times each
Arizona- my grandparents had a mobile home there for awhile.
Houston- I did get to see some of the space center, but not much.
Los Angeles- I've been to Disneyland a few times.
Saint Louis- not really since I was only on the plane at the time, but I did get to see the Arch from the window.
Four Corners- I was just a little kid at the time, so I don't remember a thing

Went on holiday to Nice in the South of France last year, a lovely place with weather to match.

It is not a cheap holiday, but one I would recommend, as it is also a good base for nearby resorts such as Monaco.

The southwest. That low humidity, those gorgeous rock formations, the exotic plants. Exotic to me, anyway. Beautiful place out there. Hate the bugs though. I'm used to my bitey bugs, I don't like foreign bitey bugs that hang around the big cacti.

I've been through a good bit of the south and west, but I haven't yet had the opportunity to visit the northeast. It's quite a shock leaving Alabama and going west. They don't really have trees in some of those states. They have some nice bushes, but no trees. I was polite and didn't tell them they only had bushes. And then you get to California and BOOM! What a tree! Made us look like we just had bushes.

I really want to go to the UK someday. Might go into the cities, but I really want to go to the countryside and the small towns. I don't want to get too far out of my comfort zone when I go abroad. :p

I have been on trips that were great places: Bahamas, Hawaii, Pacific coast from Mexico to British Columbia. There are specific places that I have returned to multiple times and will continue to do so: San Diego, San Francisco, Hawaii, Pacific Northwest, anywhere around Lake Superior, anywhere in Montana. In either case, I was alone or with people that may or may not have contributed positively.

There were trips that were good because of the people I was with and/or what we did: New York City, upstate New York, Massachusetts, Jackson Hole, WY(multiple times over 25 years).

While climbing Kilimanjaro & diving in the Galapagos rank pretty high, the most amazing, humbling, and somber place I’ve ever visited was the island of Iwo Jima and getting to stand (68 years later) on the exact spot where the most famous photograph in history was taken.

My favorite trip isn't exactly a tourist destination: my grandparents' farm. Everyone in the community there is so friendly. I feel at peace with the world when I go there.

I was lucky enough to spend three weeks in Spain, France, and Italy after my high school graduation. Nothing has come close to topping that yet. :p

My first family holiday abroad was to France which is beautiful especially in summer when the weather is hot but not too hot like some other countries. The small towns and villages are full of character and this might sound strange but the people paint their windows a range of tasteful colours unlike the UK where everyone paints them white which just seems so boring. But there are still a lot of great places in the UK and I strongly recommend the west highlands in Scotland. I have also been to Italy which I think is a bit more exotic than France and very different too.:)
