I was looking around online for info on Aspergers and I came across this site. I was diagnosed when I was 12, but I've had a difficult time accepting the "label". I'm now a college student and I'm starting to realize that while labels don't define a person, they certainly make it easier to find other people similar to you. I'm trying to find people who think like I do so I can finally stop wearing my "neurotypical" mask 24/7! It's exhausting.

Welcome @whiterabbit815 to Aspie Central. Sometimes it takes a long time to consider something. Your diagnosis doesn't define you, but it might help you understand yourself better.

Hello! Yes, I've also struggled to come to terms with the diagnosis. I don't reject it but there's just so much of the traits that I don't think I connect with. I think the problem is that I look at my communication abilities and think they're pretty much the same as everyone else's. But I suppose that's only on the surface and it's more complicated than that - it's a very complex diagnosis after all.

And yes, wearing a mask all the time in order to fit in is exhausting. A bit like this:

Yeah, it can be tough to "Pretend to be Normal". Just don't. Be who you are. It's the only person you can be at the end of the day.
