New here- haven't been diagnosed yet

I'm a 31 year old female, and I am not quite sure if I have Asperger's since I was never evaluated for it. It never even crossed my mind until recent months when I started to learn more about it, but I do fit a lot of the signs (but also the opposite of a lot of other signs). It would explain a lot though with things in my life if I ended up being diagnosed. I especially never thought anything of it before because my mom actually works with autistic children and she's never expressed concern about it with me. But then again, she also works with kids that are low functioning and I'm not sure of her knowledge of Aspergers specifically, and I'm kind of embarrassed to even bring it up to her at this point. How do you even go about getting evaluated? Advice on how to bring it up to my mom who might dismiss the idea? Not quite sure If I want to just yet, but I'd like to know what my options are.

First of all, welcome! Good to have you. :)

I don't know your mom, but maybe you could just casually drop it in conversation somehow and see how she reacts? If in doubt, it's better to dip a toe into the lake to judge its temperature than to dive in head-first only to freeze to death. (That metaphor may not make sense...please forgive me, I am not my mental best this morning :) )

Welcome to AC. You might consider spending some time here...interacting with other people on the spectrum of autism to give you a better of understanding of whether or not you perceive yourself as such. You'll find a number of us have gone through this "voyage of self discovery", however have yet to be formally diagnosed by medical professionals.

One thing though to consider before telling others in your personal orbit that you may be on the spectrum. That it can be a precarious proposition. Where you might be met with disbelief and denial, total understanding or total ignorance. It can be a crapshoot. Don't expect even those closest to you to necessarily have a predictable response.

take an online test your mother obviously has very rigid views about validity probably have to have the word psychiatrist or clin psych or md or prof
