Hi from Nottingham, UK

Hi folks. I'm a 43 year old woman from Nottingham, UK, & am just going through the process of diagnosis. I have been told by a psychologist that Aspergers is pretty much a certainty.
I am currently feeling totally overwhelmed. Whilst getting the diagnosis will help me to make sense of my entire life, l am struggling with feeling like it also means that nothing will ever improve for me.
Has anyone else been in this situation?

Hi.

I'm also in the UK. Whilst I haven't yet decided whether to seek diagnosis (my son was recently diagnosed and in learning about ASD because of him, I came to the startling realisation that I am probably firmly on the spectrum myself; likely AS although as I understand it they do not diagnose that separately anymore and you will simply sit under the umbrella of ASD) I have very much been feeling what you describe and recently remarked something similar on my own intro thread!

Welcome aboard. I have been in the situation of feeling extremely overwhelmed and also less than optimistic about the future. The knowledge of your condition can be difficult to accept and understand. Being active in this forum has helped me tremendously.
Best wishes.

Hi, thepurpleschmoo.

Welcome to the club...I found out I was aspie last autumn, and wandered around for weeks being a little afraid of what that might mean. It took me a long time to realize that it's only overwhelming when I tried to take it all in at once.

Explore as you would any new space; you are meeting yourself again, for the first time.

Welcome to AC.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, I've been through this, too. I wish you good luck with the diagnosis :)

Knowing and understanding your non-typical nature can be a great aid to you and its not too late. Your just a young'in and can have an entire new phase/career, whatever.
