Festival of Dyslexic Culture 2015

The Festival of Dyslexic Culture 2015, which will take place in London in October, will feature works, presentations and performances by Dyslexics, Dyspraxics, Autistics, AD(H)Ders etc.

The festival's co-organiser, neurodiverse activist Annie Morris from London Metropolitan University, writes:
===
"Why 'dyslexia' and not 'neurodiversity'? Well, its a hard call: - my instincts shout loudly for always using the term 'neurodiversity' for many reasons, - not least because it is more accurate and inclusive of everyone on the spectrum and fits within the social model of SpLDs (rather than the medical model), which is so important. It is a model of DIFFERENCE (sorry to shout...) rather than a deficit model, that focuses on what we are not great at rather than our strengths - of which there are many. So, why 'dyslexia'? its because many people do not yet recognise the ND terminology, so dyslexia is the most recognised word and entry into the wider picture. Truly, I don't want to exclude anyone, quite the opposite, and by using specialist language i was worried this could be the case."

If you are a writer, performer, academic or none of the above but have a workshop you’d like to give, or a presentation, or something else that you’d like to share which embodies the festival's vision, then please get in touch with the organisers.

Preliminary information about the festival is here on the festival's website:

And it just sounds more interesting to have all those things in the title and tagline. A more solid preview of what to look forward to. At least, it peaks my curiosity more than if it was simply all lumped together under 'neurodiverse'.
