Quora - the Q & A website, ASD and ADHD blog

After I was diagnosed with both ASD and ADHD, I wanted to find out more. Came across Quora, a social media website, where members ask and answer questions https://www.quora.com/. There are quite a few members with Aspergers and autism spectrum disorder. I'm using the Quora website to expand my...

Challenges in ASD/NT relationships from Aspie POV

I failed the Sally Anne test. To be more accurate, while I was on the waiting list to be seen for an ASD assessment, I researched autism. Had no idea that I could be on the spectrum, until an ADHD doctor spotted the symptoms and referred me. During waiting list research days, everything was...

What other conditions do you have?

ADHD combined type, for which I take daily medication. I'm getting better at understanding how ADHD and ASD affect me, both together and seperately. But I try focus on the symptoms rather than the medical labels.

If you could remove one fragment of Asd what would it be?

I agree with you there. I have ADHD (combined type). Often been aware of poor attention, hyperactiveness and impulsive behaviour. But it was my ADHD doctor who also spotted the autism symptoms. He referred me to his colleagues and I was later diagnosed with ASD. I think my ADHD can be more...

Apergers medications and other mental conditions

I take Concerta 72 mg daily dose for ADHD. It was the ADHD diagnosis which led to the autism spectrum disorder diagnosis. Also taken the anti-psychotic drug Olanzapine, which I found effective.

    Questioning my diagnosis

This is an interesting question. I have both ASD and ADHD. In 2014, a specialist doctor assessed me for ADHD. I thought it was possible that I could have ADHD, but not probable. While being assessed, the doctor also suggested that I could be on the autism spectrum. I had no idea that you could...

    Aspergers and/or ADHD

I have both ADHD and Asperger's (or in my case ASD - autism spectrum disorder). I was diagnosed first with ADHD and then with ASD. All within a year. I've done a good job of hiding and managing the symptoms because diagnosis only occurred in my 40s. The diagnosis reports are useful and I'm also...

    An aspie abroad

You can do the trip on a budget. I did. Booked my Russian rail tickets directly from RZD Russian state railways, rather through agents. Stayed in hostels, too.

    An aspie abroad

Glad you like the videos. Good to know I got the 'Illinois' pronunciation correct and from Illinoisan, too.

    An aspie abroad

Just completed a round the world trip, mostly by train. I flew from London, UK to New York City and then crossed the USA by train. From Los Angeles, I flew to Japan. I spent a week criss-crossing Japan by train. After that, it was a 2 night ferry crossing to Vladivostok, Russia. I took the Trans...

    Autism therapy

I was wondering about other people's experiences of therapy and counselling. Currently on waiting list for specialist ASD therapy, which should start in about 8 weeks' time. I've had counselling sessions before to help with anxiety and anger management, which were helpful. But these sessions...

    Special Talents

Public transport and memorising maps and timetables. When I was 10, I went on a bus route for the first time. I'd memorised the route map beforehand. When I thought the driver had made a wrong turn, I spotted his mistake. I've just finalised all timing and bookings for a round the world trip...

What do you find is most difficult in your life?

Empathy. Trying to figure how other people might be feeling. Or trying to ask the right questions in a difficult situation. I know I've hurt people this way. My diagnosis highlighted a particularly low empathy quotient. And I've failed that Sally-Anne test where you're meant to guess what...

    ADHD or Asperger's?

I have both ADHD and ASD (autism spectrum disorder). You might find this UK health presentation on the ADHD / ASD combination interesting. http://www.rcpsych.ac.uk/pdf/Whitwell%20Susannah%20-%20ASD%20CPD%20Updates.pdf
