What is your nationality or ethnicity?

I'm in the States. I'm also of Danish descent. My family is also from Belgium and Norway. I recently connected with distant cousins/aunts/uncles in Europe and they all think I'm a European at my core. I would agree with that assessment.

    "Blending In"

I'm sorry this happened to you. It sucks when you try to connect with someone and they just brush you off with no explanation. Based on what I've read on this site and in other research, this type of unexplained rejection tends to happen to those of us on the spectrum with alarming regularity...

Should you tell people you're an aspie?

Very true, Jet. I wouldn't say my diet is bad but it involves no vegetables. I managed to survive without salads! I've never ate a salad in my life and resent them being offered with entrees.

Should you tell people you're an aspie?

Totally agree Agree! I'm at a very healthy body weight, exercise each day, have perfect cholesterol and blood glucose levels...and I have never ate more than a nibble of a vegetable in my life (vegetables are my strongest food aversions). Somehow, I survived into adulthood without them...

Should you tell people you're an aspie?

Disclosing your diagnosis is a truly personal decision. I would evaluate first whether such disclosure would likely cause harm or be helpful in acquiring understanding or accommodations. After careful consideration, I've decided to disclose my Autism. Why? For months, I have followed blogs...

    Itchy teeth?

It could be a neurological or inflammatory reaction to a specific substance or food. I used to have insanely itchy skin and sensitive teeth. I would wake up in the middle of night with my ears and teeth tingling/itching and nothing would relieve the very irritating sensation. An allergist...

    Aspie Women & Masculine Brains

Desiree, I'm pretty much the same way, though I'm pretty girly-girl in appearance. My thought processes are much more similar to the thought processes of guys. I prefer to be engaged in activities rather than emotion-exploring discussions. I have a hard time relating to typical women and do much...

How do I get over a lost friendship???

Soona45, it's them--not you. They sound like emotional vampires to me and unfortunately, we on the spectrum tend to be taken advantage of and bullied by these types of NT, mean girl, popularity-seeking types. I've experienced the same thing a number of times and learned through trial and error...

Do you often find NTs illogical or unreasonable?

Short answer to the question raised-yes. More-so though, I tend to feel as if NTs can be inefficient--constantly wasting time on idle chit-chat, voicing the same opinions over and again, rehashing disapproven claims or conclusions, etc. I find that most meetings are unnecessary and rarely...

    New and worried about everything...

Welcome Steff. I'm new too and was recently "formally" diagnosed in my late 30s. I began suspecting I was on the ASD spectrum after volunteering for an outing for Autistic kids a few years ago. I began researching and independently concluded I was on the spectrum a couple of years ago. I sought...
