Anaïs Mitchell did a concept album a while back, Hadestown, based on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice. I don't remember it getting a whole lot of attention, which is a shame as it is wonderful and has some pretty fabulous guest vocals (Greg Brown, Ani DiFranco and Justin Vernon, among others).
