    When people say "it's ok"

I have had several people say to me "it's ok", "everything will be ok", or some version of that. How do I respond to that? For example if I'm in a scary situation and a friend says "it's ok", what should I say in response? I usually just say thanks but I'm not sure if that's appropriate.

    Laughing at 'the wrong time'

I have been guilty of this so many times. What I remember most is when my mom first told me that my grandmother had breast cancer. I was 13 at the time and I smiled even though there was nothing funny about it! My emotions get mixed it like that all the time.

    Bah Humbug!

I feel the SAME way! I'm so frustrated. I want to be included in social events but don't know how. I want to enjoy the lights but it send me into sensory overdrive. I want to be in the spirit but I'm just not. I don't know how to get passed it either. I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one...

    Older friends

Sorry about the survey. I meant to allow multiple choices. I agree with the expectations though. I feel like older friends are more accepting of me for who I am. It's like they understand me better and dont expect me to behave like NTs.

Finding it hard to love family when I'm mad at them?

Love is hard for me. I say I love my parents and I do care about them very very much! However, when I get angry or upset, I seem to forget those feelings of love. I usually do or say things that I later regret. The interesting thing about it is that when I say those things, I truly believe them...

    Older friends

I am just curious about aspies and their friends. (I am talking strictly about friends here and not romantic relationships.) Do other aspies gravitate towards friends who are significantly older? I am curious because I just realized that I have subconsciously done this all my life. The majority...

    Wish I wasn't an Aspie

It would love to have been born NT! That would make everything easier. I have never thought about a cure actually ruining things I guess since I'm not married or in a relationship. I wonder how it would affect my family and the 1 close friend I do have? It is definitely something to think about.

    The problem with questions?

Thanks for the input. It helps to know that I'm not the only one who has problems with asking questions. I am going to try really hard to ask my parents and closest friend some things and see how it goes.

"Loud Hands, or — Why Can’t My Adulthood Be Valid to You Because I’m Autistic?"

I've been told the same thing. I've also been told to "grow up" It's frustrating because I really can't control the meltdowns once they start.

    The problem with questions?

Does anyone else have problems asking questions? I can ask simple questions such as "what is your favorite color?" I also don't have a problem asking factual questions. However, I struggle with questions when it comes to friends and relationships. I'm always afraid that my question is too...

    Accommodations with law enforcement

I am 29 years old and was diagnosed with Aspergers almost a year ago. Like many teens, I got my drivers license at 16. I had a first time experience tonight. I was pulled over on my way home from church. (I was in my driveway.) It was nothing serious; just a headlight not working. I was given...

    Wish I wasn't an Aspie

I just need to vent/rant... I see so many articles and posts about people who wouldn't change their diagnosis if they could. I just don't understand this. I hate being an Aspie. It makes everything so difficult. It's hard to make friends and fit in. I've lived my whole life feeling out of place...

    Bright lights at night

Thanks everyone! I am going to try a night light and if that doesn't work, I will resort to wearing sunglasses whenever I have to get up at night.

    Bright lights at night

I am very sensitive to loud sounds and bright lights. My family members are well aware of this. I am also a type 1 diabetic and usually have to use the restroom during the night. My mom who is awake frequently at night, refuses to turn off the bathroom light when she leaves. (We only have 1...
