    Any college graduate aspies here?

I loved college/university. I started off as a music major (Baritone Horn) but graduated with a degree in history and East Asian Studies. I was at University of California at Santa Cruz in the late 1970s, when David Huffman (Huffman Coding) taught there, and I suspect there were many others on...

    An Aspie moment?

That's great! Sometimes our memory proves useful. I ended up being a lawyer who specialized in insurance law, and can go on and on and on about assessment spirals and such. My husband taps me in a certain way when I'm boring the crap out of people.

    How fast do you talk?

I've had court reporters tell me to slow it down, they can't keep up. On numerous occasions.

Can you tell your left from your right?

I have a terrible time remembering right and left. I have to think which hand do I write with? Since I am right handed, then I remember. But I have to go through that whole process.

School Experiences for Aspies and Autistic

I found school to be a place where I was (often) respected, because I had the little professor thing of Asperger's going on. I was also the kid in the 6th grade that everyone hated (new school). I grew up in a small rural Kansas town, then moved to LA by the time of high school. I was not...

Do you recognize if you're being "rude"?

A smile to a question about how you are doing is a very nice way to respond. Maybe they wanted to open up an extended conversation, but smiling is a gracious acknowledgement they spoke to you that allows you to go right back to work, without being rude.

    Unexpected Effect of Asperger's Diagnosis

I was diagnosed at age 52, and have suffered a major failure of confidence. That has been the hardest part of the diagnosis. I've been sober for 28 years, so I just ride with it. I tend to tell people I have Aspergers if they seem put off. It's a new reality for me, just like facing life...
