    Annoying Sounds

Sorry to say, I have never found a coping mechanism for misophonia. I live a reclusive life with an understanding wife and appreciate a quiet controlled environment.

    Annoying Sounds

I recognized my misophonia at an early age, probably 9 or 10 years old. It further complicates having AS. It's practically impossible to explain this to others. So, I never go to movie theaters (people talk, eat popcorn loudly and slurp drinks). I skip restaurants that have a lot of kids or loud...

Do Aspies have delayed mental development?

This has been a very thoughtful topic. I remember being in my early 20s and wondering when I would feel like an adult. I thought that maturity meant I would possess a "core" that would guide me in life's situations. Other people seemed to give judgements without any serious thought and I...

    Luminosity

I subscribed to them for a few weeks. The puzzles are challenging and usually timed to force a person to think fast. After a news report that Luminosity wasn't as effective as they advertised for fending off dementia, I cancelled them. Part of it was the cost and partly because I had to set...

    Turning manipulator?

Inator, In my mind, I have written a dozen or more posts similar to yours. I wanted to understand and to explain some of the complexities of my thoughts. To find self acceptance and maybe social acceptance. The reason I am here today is sound out my ideas, in an accepting environment and...

    At a wits' end

For what it's worth, I also have been in situations where everything I did seemed wrong to others. I could have been a total "sell out" and apologized for everything to get them to quit. If I tried to leave, then they condemned me for that too. Find a peaceful place (I did here) and deal with...

Can you look into your own eyes?

Looking into someone else's eyes doesn't bother me very much, nor does looking into my eyes in a mirror. I must add that I really don't like mirrors and avoid them unless I need to shave or comb my hair.

    Do you believe in God?

Hello, I came here today with a different concern in mind, but lately I have given a lot of thought to my origin (as in life). I am an atheist. Satisfied that life can come from the right planet with the right conditions (like earth). And that my existence is due to my parents and conception...

    Misophonia and Aspies?

Hi Ways, Yes I know exactly what you mean. I discovered misophonia (and this web site) quite by accident, although I have know about my aversion to certain sounds all my life. I always travel with ear plugs to try and mute any sounds that could annoy me at night. I avoid having dinner in the...

    Misophonia and Aspies?

"Is there a visual version of this, because flashing telly screens in malls, buses and train stations also drive me up the wall. Same goes for certain smells." Finding out about mesophonia has been a kind of blessing for me. I have always been sensitive to sounds that other people seem to...

    Hello

Hi Everyone, I bookmarked this forum about 6 months ago and read up on bits and pieces that came to me in email. So much of what I see here seems to apply to me that I am now reading, learning and finding a home, of sorts, by being here. I am a self diagnosed asperger's syndrom kind of guy.

    Misophonia and Aspies?

The sounds I make don't bother me, probably because of the control I have over them. If I am in a group having lunch or dinner, I am often deliberately quiet, even though I have never met anyone who is sensitive to the same sounds I am. Glad to have found this group.

    Misophonia and Aspies?

My first memory of misophonia was as a boy about 8-9 years old and my Father was eating an apple. The sound (not my Father) was so annoying I guess I glared at him. He tossed the apple on the floor and our relationship remained at odds from then on .... neither of us understanding the reason...
