    Withdrawing from anti-depressants

I went off Escitalopram (on my own without doctor approval, not recommended!) after being on it about 12 years. I too wasn't sure they were doing anything for me anymore. Brain zaps, insomnia, increased anxiety, so many withdrawal effects! It was hell. I was off them for about six months. After...

    Do neurotypicals go nonverbal?

As far as I know my husband is neurotypical, but sometimes when he’s stressed he ceases being able to form coherent sentences, sometimes just getting out a couple syllables at a time. Something similar happens to me when I have extreme anxiety where I can get out the right words but not in the...

Therapist shakes head twice, when you mention aspergers

I’m tired of other people thinking they can tell you what you feel or experience. I’m frustrated with my therapist as well. She keeps giving me that frustrated look people get when they realize they can’t defend their own viewpoint. As for these forums being dangerous, I wish more medical...

    What is AutiGender?

I haven’t read any of the links, but my first thought is that gender roles are kind of made up social rules, and since autistic people tend to reject made up social rules, gender is less likely to mean anything to us. That’s sort of how I feel anyway. I live as a female because I was born a...

    Considering Becoming a Mute

I thought about trying to go mute before. A couple times I tried taping my mouth shut around the house to remind me not to speak. So often it seems like speaking does more harm than good. I don't have any answers for you. Just saying you're not alone.

Optician who claims to treat autism struck off

I've been wondering about the idea of tinted lenses for a while. I wouldn't expect them to "cure" anything, but I do feel more comfortable looking at faces when I'm wearing sunglasses. Wearing sunglasses indoors though is kinda weird, so I thought maybe some slightly tinted glasses would be...

A song about my love for the neurotypical world. ;)

Question from someone not on the spectrum!

Regarding Lisa, is it mean to say you don't like something? I'm still figuring this stuff out myself. She may just be trying to contribute. For instance, if people are talking about tomatoes, I might say, "I don't like tomatoes." That would just be what I have to contribute to the conversation...

The concept of faith in religion - may challenge your faith

One of the main reasons I was attracted to Paganism is that it doesn't require any faith to believe in the natural world.

    Conversation for 4 year old.

Another thing is that crowds can be a bit overwhelming when there are “too many kids there.”

    Conversation for 4 year old.

Does he know any of the kids at the playground? For me, as a kid (and also as an adult) I wasn’t comfortable approaching random people. If I know someone first though, it’s easier. A lot of the friends I had growing up were people I met because they were friends of someone I already knew.

    Are autistics mean?

People think I'm mean too. I think the problem may be the same reason people say we don't have empathy. I may be wrong here, but this is my current hypothesis. The only way that neurotypicals know to express and/or interpret emotion is through body language and eye contact. If they don't see an...

    CBD For Autism

I find I get the most benefit from CBD and THC combined. CBD by itself is definitely helpful for my anxiety, but I’ve found that I need at least 50mg to be useful, and when I use it regularly I get “brain zaps” (something that happens when reducing an SSRI dosage). Using it occasionally though...
