AIMS' 36-year Long-Term Monitoring Program has seen continued dramatic improvement in coral cover in the northern and central sections of the reef, following a period without intense disturbances.

That is good news. I have never had the pleasure to dive on those reefs. The closest I have come is at Sipidan or Sulawesi. But there is still time.

Being able to dive and observe leafy sea dragons has been an interest of mine since seeing them in a J. Custeau special as a teen. For the longest time I thought that was for explorers like Custeau, not for me . . . . until I learned to dive. I was entranced when I first saw a ghost pipefish. [Not my picture]
