I think it depends on the situation....I think I am naturally more inclined towards optimism but I have developed more pessimism in certain circumstances where there is history of extremely bad outcomes or long strings or moderately/mildly bad outcomes.
 
I'd like to say I'm a pessimist-realist. I'll keep the realism in mind and go with it mostly, but my initial response is pessimism.
