Even I Think My Brain is Weird

My brain just brings forth the weirdest things. I woke up after a dream last night and had this line from a song running through my head: "I don't feel the need to give such secrets away" Here's the thing: The song is from the 80s, but I haven't heard it for decades - 30 years maybe. And if...

What do you do for a living?

I'm a programmer. I mostly do back-end libraries that some other software uses to do some processing. My stuff goes into the firmware in physical devices that my employer sells. I do a lot of math in my job, too, and I love that part.

Writing emails that are too long

@kriss72, I wasn't trying to call you out or anything. I just thought, "Here's a discussion about long emails, and I wrote a long reply. Then someone else wrote the same thing, but actually made it short." If anything, I was poking fun at myself. I hope I didn't make you feel bad.

Comparing your response to mine, you're clearly better at brevity than I am. :D

Writing emails that are too long

Long emails has been a problem for me. My main problem is that I'm an engineer and I want to put all the technical details into an email. I always used to think that everyone else wanted all the details that I had, so they could think through it the same way I did. That's not what people want...

    Question for those with Autism

I would tell myself "You don't function like everyone else and you don't have to try to function like everyone else." Once I accepted and processed my diagnosis, I realized that I really was different than everyone else and I started looking for what works for me. I've commented in several...

I'm not sure, but likes become habits and then habits become compulsions and it feels like I can not start my day until I have done this list of things. I try to be aware of it because it can start with a like and then slowly become a burden. Also, my son likes two of those puzzles and my...

My morning routine keeps getting longer. I now do seven online puzzles every day, read for 10 minutes, and listen to a 15-minute podcast. I can’t figure out what to cut out.

What fictional characters do you suspect of being autistic?

I don’t think I’ve heard the term “autism-coded” before, but it instantly makes sense to me. You learn something new every day.

    Rant - I feel stupid

@AuroraBorealis, there are two approaches to understanding mathematics. You need to figure out which one is best for you. Approach 1: It's a black box You memorize formulas, i.e. "In this case, we use this formula". You just need to understand what the inputs are and what the outputs are. If...

Funniest mistakes in items you bought

I bought a Harry Potter knock-off Lego set off Facebook for super cheap. My son was really into both Harry Potter and Legos, so I thought it would be a perfect Christmas gift. When it and the box said, "Nagic Wolrd" (that's the exact spelling), I knew I had made a big mistake. It...
