How has being diagnosed with AS impacted your life?

My life got better after I was diagnosed. I finally understood why I was having trouble with so many things and therapy helped me improve some of my issues and adapt to others.

    my aspie friend won't change

I was diagnosed as a teenager and have spent years working on issues like the ones you describe. The psychiatrist who diagnosed me has done a lot of work with people with Asperger's and I was lucky to be in his care. He helped me a lot but there were some things that I realized on my own that...

Who diagnosed you and why ?

I was diagnosed around high school by my psychiatrist. I had been seeing a therapist for years because of depression. I had made a lot of progress but he thought that I might be able to do better with medication. I started seeing a psychiatrist to prescribe meds and monitor my progress. I lucked...

    Playing the Aspie Card

The only time I have ever played my "Aspie Card" was with two roommates I recently had. It was interesting because the problem was completely their fault. I have had more roommates than I can count and these two were the only ones that I ever had trouble with. If I did or said something they...

What Do You Think Of The Autism Severity Scale?

As a kid I fit the Level 1 definition perfectly. I was diagnosed right around high school and with the help of my wonderful doctors I have been able to learn how to function better. I wonder if that qualifies as "without supports in place...?" If I had never been diagnosed and helped I would...

    Weird new "cure"

I think there might be some jumping of the gun going on here. The article isn't claiming the drug to be a "cure" or even suggesting it as a treatment at this point. It suggests the possibility of it or a similar drug being a treatment in the future based on recent studies showing a difference in...

Does Your Employer Know You’re On the Spectrum?

I have not mentioned it to my employer because it has not been an issue at all. I didn't put it in my application because there was no need for any accommodation so it didn't seem necessary. I would be willing to tell an employer if there were significant problems that could be dealt with by...

Does anyone walk on their toes, or been told a lot that they walk differently or funny?

I scare the hell out of my roommate all the time. I don't know why but I walk very quietly and he never hears me coming. I have been accused of being a ninja by a coworker I nearly caused to have a heart attack, twice. Someone is going to put a bell around my neck soon.

    Anyone extra sensitive to medicines?

I don't have a sensitivity, I appear to be immune to most sleeping medications. I have always suffered from insomnia and my doctor ran out of prescriptions to try. None of them worked, even at high doses.

    Eating Habits

I have always been an extremely picky eater but I have less of a problem with texture than with taste. I genuinely find the taste of most things terrible. It is horribly inconvenient and I can barely go to restaurants. Fancy restaurants have menu items with a larger number of ingredients and...

    Who Would Win?

I think Spawn and Blade would destroy Hellboy and Van Helsing.

    I Just Can't Believe It!

I just saw Frozen with my friends and their kids. I can't believe that some people are freaking out that it is gay propaganda. I have one thing to say to the person who pointed out in an article that at the end the giant snow monster put on a queen's crown and said it promoted cross dressing...

    Favorite Quotes

Terry Pratchett has so many great ones I can't decide on a favorite. He is an awesome author and on my "if you could have lunch with anyone who would it be?" list.

    Your first toy

I can't remember which toy was my first but my entire childhood was spent with a massive number of stuffed animals on my bed. I had tons and they all had names and stories. I was also surrounded by books as far back as I can remember. I had so many I had my own bookcase. I still have one stuffed...

Do yall mind all the psych people in here using AC for generic research?

I don't really mind because I think the research can be beneficial for people who want to understand autism spectrum disorders or people suffering from them. When I was in high school the psychologist I was seeing asked me if I was okay with him talking to the teachers at my school about...
