    Autism and food

I think we all have food issues here, and I think depending on what is happening in our lives (physically and/or mentally) it exacerbates these issues. I was trying a medication for depression that ended up causing me to throw up all the time, even though I've been off it for a very long time...

"If you were on the spectrum, you'd know it" ???

People with ASD were/are diagnosed with the information available at the time. Professionals used to say girls couldn't have Autism, hence girls being diagnosed when they are NOT children, like me. This lady seems a bit arrogant to me.

What are your thoughts on taking prescription medication?

I've been through the pharmaceutical alphabet in just over 10 years. I've experienced a wide range of unfortunate side effects, the worst of which was nearly ending my life. Currently I'm taking Cannabis, I stick to the strains with a lower THC content, and higher CBD. This works for both my...

    Are autistics mean?

I was the same, picked on, than I became really mean and aggressive. I still have more moments than I care for, but I have evened out a lot over the years. I guess it's one of the drawbacks of having a lot of empathy, when negative emotions are being directed specifically at you, you don't walk...

    Anybody ever get extreme anger?

Anger is a big problem for me as well, to the point that I would fantasize doing acts of violence towards that person also. This is a particularly difficult challenge for me as I work in management, and deal with both the public and staff. A lot of days I feel like there's no more humanity or...

What do people on the spectrum feel they have to offer?

Are you on the spectrum and asking a rhetorical question out of frustration? If so, I can understand the place it's coming from. Always fervently wishing that you can have one moment where you understand people, and how to connect with them. Just remember that that street should always go both ways.

I am very strict with people around me and myself

I relate to all of this. I just have to remember to put myself in other people's shoes, just like I'd hope they would try to do for me.

    Comfy Clothes

I hate wearing clothes. Everything either never fits right, feels weird or irritating. I'm always pulling, adjusting, scratching etc. Shoes, the same, but not as bad. If it's the wrong pair I'm in pain until I take them off or sometimes even after I take them off. Let's all go into business...

Environmental vs Chemical depression for people on the spectrum

I think it could be a bit of both, and it's a real pain in the butt.

Things you used to believe as a kid

    I believed those too!

    Seriously, this makes me nuts!

I feel the same because it feels dismissive. There's been a lot of flooding this year, it wouldn't be very helpful of me to tell these victims that Poseidon will make sure that they don't drown. What's helpful is other humans coming together to help bring people to safety, and provide shelter...

    Zoloft withdrawal...

I remember Zoloft withdrawls. It's an incredibly effective medication, but oh man if you forget to take it! I like some of the suggestions above, and even use some of them. I've finally, and reluctantly, started using my smartphone to help me organize myself a bit, and it really does help. It's...

    Dysphagia/Pseudodysphagia and ASD

I have to center myself, and employ breathing techniques before I take pills. I also have to think about what beverage to choose that will taste best to me that day to make swallowing the pills easier. It's not all the time, and depends on my mental and physical states. The dentist is a...
