Can't stand Asperger's has a "high functioning" connotation

From what I remember of the criteria for being dx aspie vs. autie there were just a couple of differences: IQ and presence or lack of language delay. They still share all the other aspects to varying degrees: lack of theory of mind and other intuitive social skills, intense interests, atypical...

Can't stand Asperger's has a "high functioning" connotation

I think I prefer to think of it in terms of more or less "affected" by different traits - if you think of all the different aspie/autie traits as on a spectrum themselves. Some aspies are more affected by executive dysfunction and will have a harder time in that area. Someone less affected in...

    Favorite soda

I try not to drink these much... but Dr. Pepper, hands down. Also a good, old-fashioned root beer.

Books to 'teach' you social skills?

What Men with Asperger Syndrome Want to Know About Women, Dating and Relationships by Maxine Aston is pretty good. It goes into the different ways NTs and Aspies think in different situations and how they might conflict because of that - and also how to work through the differences. This will...

I think I have AS but my therapist insists I have a myriad of other issues

I had the same problem. Even though I went to my first therapist to get an aspie diagnosis, she didn't really persue that - she kept trying to work on everything else, like anxiety. I was patient for 4 or 5 months, but finally realized I wasn't going to convince her. IMO, if you have undiagnosed...

Depression - Just Snap Out of It

Maybe you're right...It's really nice to know "intellectually" that others are like me (online). In real life, I never feel like I "belong". Getting the official diagnosis has shaken me up a bit. Even though I wanted it because it made so much sense, now there's no denying it's real and permanent.

Depression - Just Snap Out of It

I find this to be true, too, for two reasons. Number one: the ability to focus the mind (which is also what special interests do). Number two: knowing I've accomplished something useful helps lift the mood.

Depression - Just Snap Out of It

I've had many bouts of depression and pretty much non-stop anxiety - in fact, you really can have both at the same time. You know those cliches that say it's about your attitude and not your circumstances? I understand what they mean, and it can be true to some extent. But something I think that...

What was the last movie you watched?

Skyfall and Zero Dark Thirty. Both were better than I expected them to be. I thought Zero Dark Thirty mind be kind of boring, but the story line of the main character was interesting. Skyfall had less action action than I expected - more "cyber" action.

    What are your sensory issues?

I suddenly get stiff as a board when someone hugs me(even if I try to act warm and loving, it happens somewhat). I really think this is a sort of reflex, kind of a response to perceived "danger".

    Do you read?

I've been reading a lot of Norse mythology lately, too. (And watching the movie Thor, which isn't quite the same, but still fun.) It reminds me of my obsession with Egypt when I was a kid.

Do you keep track of lists?

I keep extensive and detailed databases (fancy lists). Mine are mainly interest/hobby related or just organized information, since to-do lists don't seem to do me much good. Sometimes I'm surprised that other (online) people who share my hobby can't remember details about what they've made or...

What was the last movie you watched?

Thor - one of the few movies I'd watch over and over again. I like to read Norse mythology (and haven't read the old comics the movies are based on), so the differences between the film and the "real" story stood out to me, but still it's a good show and really funny.

just for fun--you might be aspie IF--

    26. Being stranded on an island sounds like a dream come true. (Ideally with a large chest of books and even a wrecked shipload of necessities, a la Robinson Crusoe.)

"Business casual" really gets me. What does that mean?
