Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

That is definitely important! Half the time I feel so alone and isolated trying to help her and keep myself sane simultaneously (it is a losing battle most days). And I had a combination of good and bad teachers growing up, ones that would instigate the bullying when I would correct them and...

    Sleeping WAYYY too much

Late update (it's been a crazy couple of weeks). the doctors couldn't find anything to explain the excessive sleeping. She is sleeping more still, but not quite to that excess now (averaging around 12-14hrs now). She did gain a couple of inches, though, so it really could have just been a growth...

    Sleeping WAYYY too much

Hi Everyone, Since you were all so incredibly helpful with my last dilemma, I figured I would turn to you again. Despite my best efforts to keep my daughter on a proper sleep schedule, she is awake multiple times through the night , and occasionally has night terrors and sleep walks. Generally...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Update: So, I talked to my daughter's school, and we are going to do a trial run, half the day being home-schooled and half the day at school. We are setting up a folder in SeeSaw and a portfolio so that we can share back and forth what lessons we are doing and her competency at each. We are...

    Fidgets/Coping Mechanisms

My daughter has a ring that looks like a little neon pompom. It's more discrete that the necklaces and bracelets. Here's the photo from the online store (therapyshoppe.com), we got the 6-pack for $2.99

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Hi! My daughter is in language-immersion, as well. I had hoped that extra step of translating would make things more interesting for her. (Now she just thinks it's funny to have conversations in French with me in front of her father because he can't understand what we are saying...lots of jokes...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Unfortunately, her school refused to put an IEP in place for Junior kindergarten, I think the only reason things changed were because she developed some self-harming stimming, she was biting her nails and fingers until they bled, she would pull her hair out a strand at a time behind her right...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Yes, her dad is pretty smart, too. To look at his grades, you wouldn't think so, though. He struggled through school his whole life and was diagnosed with dyslexia and Aspergers in his early twenties. We definitely have a type in this household.

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

I agree, when I was in school, I was very isolated. I never developed any friendships until high school, and even then it was little more than acquaintances. Growing up, I always wanted to be home-schooled because I hated the anxiety and boredom I felt in the classroom. I am still socially...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Hi, We tried dance class, and she loved ballet, but once the tap dancing portion started....things went south very quickly. currently, she is in gymnastics, and she loves it, I think partially because the interactions are very limited and she is one of the youngest kids in the class. We are...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Hi, I am already the one she usually goes to for answers (I still have her convinced I have the answers to everything). I am really afraid of getting burnt out, with my anxiety issues, I can let things build up until I get overwhelmed and then I will just sort of shut down (thus, taking a leave...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Thank you! and good luck with your son's diagnosis. It took us three years to get my daughter's, the biggest challenge being that she is so high functioning, so I definitely feel your pain!

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Hi, Thanks for your response, I appreciate the "inside scoop" she is still a bit too young for me to really get her take on things. She doesn't attend recess (too much noise and people) she doesn't participate in group activities because she prefers to do things on her own at school, but when...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Hi! Thank you so much for your response! I am not planning on returning to work at this point in time. I want to focus on my daughter and school (I am working towards my masters in occupational therapy and currently hold an honours BA in psychology specializing in abnormal and developmental...
