    Atypical (the tv show)

As some people mentioned, the acting is often lacking. I saw 5 episodes of the show and still really liked it. I have Asperger's and my brothers both have ASD, so everywhere we turned there were characters like us, which is quite unusual. This is good representation in my book. It includes such...

    Any houseplant enthusiasts?

I love succulents! The philodendrons and rubber plants are incredibly good at filtering toxins in a house, but I can't get the philodendron because they can be poisonous to housecats and the rubber plant grows too big for my tiny living place.

TV's / Displays in Public Waiting Rooms

The TV is just another noise adding on to the cacophony of a busy waiting room. It's unnecessary and annoying, it particularly bothers people who already have sensory issues.

    Numbers...

I'm fantastic at lower-level maths, business math, and math related to science. All of the maths that have a theoretical component too them, like imaginary numbers or intersecting planes through graphs, don't make any sense at all. I thought it would be more common for people with Asperger's to...

    Engrossed by water?

Yes, I love swimming. It could be related to sensory issues because most clothes and surfaces feel kind of hard or irritating compared to water. However, wearing wet clothes is the worst thing in the world. I don't think it's the water that I like so much as the feeling it gives.

Do you have problems falling asleep?

I've had trouble sleeping since I was a child and got in a lot of trouble during preschool for not taking naps. One of my brothers also has Asperger's and he is a chronic insomniac. The other has autism too, but he wakes up early and doesn't have problems going to sleep. Maybe it is because...

    Is Asperger's hereditary?

I do think it is genetic, having worked with children and their families through autism speaks events for years. One of my brothers has Asperger's Syndrome with all of the hallmarks, the other one has high-functioning autism with an auditory processing disorder. I will be evaluated soon. My mom...

Looking for some advice re: homeschooling

Maybe this part is unimportant, but I just want you to know that you're not alone and there are other kids like her. She has the possibility of being able to socialize and connect to someone. My mom realized I was different when I read ahead in the books she read to me at bedtime. (It was Harry...

Wanting to do the same activity / thing.

This is common and is probably a trait related to your autism. I have experienced the same thing. In school I didn't want to go to a different class every 45 minutes, instead it was easier to learn completely immersed in a topic for days at a time. Plus, when I took lunches to school, I ate the...
