Am I the only one around here who asks questions about this?

Yes, that was a Big Lebowski reference.

Anyway;

Earlier this week the national mail service in my country came out with a statement regarding a situation that occurred.

The situation; a 26-year old newly hired postman (woman actually, but gender isn?t relevant here) decided to burn all the mail she had to deliver of the past 2 weeks. She was fired immediately after she confessed, whilst her statement was nothing more than ?I didn?t feel like delivering mail?.

There are a few things that come to mind here.

If you do not feel like delivering mail, why apply for a job at the mail service?

The explanation might be interesting though. It could be that she has been sent to do this job to retain her rights to her welfare check. And that is the rumour nationwide when people were discussing this issue. I don?t know if it?s true, but with how laws are changing it could very well be true.

What they?re in fact doing here is releasing people that have regular jobs, just so the government can put people on welfare to do this job with no rights to save up for retirement, and do it for below minimum wage (and as such to retain the right to welfare which is about half of minimum wage). Funny how that works.

So that?s the rumour going, that she, just like me is collecting welfare. It?s just that they figured ?let?s force her to do that job?. Yet I have no proof with that. On the other hand, I see no actual other reason why she would?ve applied for said job. Well, unless someone got fed up with trolling internet forums and decided to troll companies in real life.

The most interesting thing however that comes to mind in all this is how media reports this.

If I commit murder, there will be extensive reports in the media that might even wonder if I?m mentally ill in some way. And I guess, that when you decide to kill someone, that?s a fair thing to think. It?s not fair to assume it and label someone as crazy, without any actual proof. Someone might have actual reasons to do so and might be, in a clinical sense, perfectly sane.

Yet, if I decide to screw over my own career, and better yet, do not have the balls to tell my supervisor ?I don?t like this job, I?m going to look for something else? but rather think ?I?ll show him, sending me around with mail to deliver? I?ll set it ablaze?. One might wonder if this person does have a faulty reasoning center in her brain, and in fact, in a clinical sense is mentally ill. Even I as an aspie don?t really consider setting my work ablaze a healthy move in any way? and my judgment might be off sometimes.

So media doesn?t even wonder about the why, as long as there is a statement that said ?I don?t feel like working?. Maybe they would?ve even put it to rest when her statement was: ?Ice cream!?. That?s the end for them. If I were to take a life I can?t get away with ?I felt like stabbing someone in the chest? (nor with yelling ?Ice cream!?). There will be extensive reports and background information about this.

Similarly, I find it interesting how you never read how someone, who for instance, wrecked 5 cars within 2 months while driving without a license will not be assessed in a sense to see if this person is mentally ?alright?. It takes some perseverance and a lack of respect to authority, amongst other things, to act that? dare I say ?crazy?.

Back to the mail services however.

I?ve talked to people that worked for the national mail services years ago and are in their 50?s now. They told me, back in their day, it was a highly respected job. You represented the government. Well, yes, it privatized a few years back, and ever since it has to deal with cutbacks and mass releases of employees yearly. And over time it seems that they rarely hire someone with actual hours, but give them a 0 hour contract and just place them how they see fit. Hire people from temp agencies, that sort of thing. The best however; no background check in order. There is no screening. As long as you can count till 10, you?re a fine asset for the day.

And as such even old postmen say; ?this is what you get if you want to hire cheap labor. You get people that aren?t reliable and sometimes you have the occasional crazy person that doesn?t give a **** about what your company represents.?

What?s also worrying, is that these practices they have at the mail services, are spreading out to healthcare now. Qualified people are being let go. They?re too expensive. So in come the temporary ones. They?re not on a contract, they don?t get any benefits because they?re on a steady payroll. And having no actual security of income will make people less focused on jobs for sure. And to make it more interesting, the government actually supports having less people on the payroll. They just name it ?flexible employment? in the sense that it?s easier to change jobs.

I?m waiting on the day the first people actually die in healthcare for malpractice cause someone didn?t really care for the job they were told to do. And it will be ever more interesting if there are extensive reports that this person shouldn?t do this job to start with but was forced to do it as a way to solve unemployment within the welfare check collectors. Especially since they?re pretty much going to shrink down the criteria for disability checks as well. Unless you?re a vegetable you?re not liable anymore in the next few years. Someone with multiple personalities in childcare? That?ll be fun. As a somewhat related joke; is this person on more than 1 payroll?

PS; I once worked for the mail services as well a few years back. 1 day? that was all.

"I'm waiting for the day the first people actually die in healthcare for malpractice cause someone didn't really care for the job they were told to do." Actually, I think it does happen quite a bit, especially in nursing homes; we just don't hear that that is the reason. Same with many other jobs. Workplace sabotage due to disgruntled employees is something companies don't want to talk about, but everyone knows it is going on. I hear things privately that people would never admit to publicly. And one reason they won't talk about it openly to the people who matter is they are afraid of lawsuits.
