Not meaning to reply to my own thread. I just thought I'd post more. I'm wondering how the rest of you received your diagnoses. I'm self-diagnosed, so I could be wrong. I suspect I have Aspergers for the following reasons :
1. Social interaction has never been easy. For one, I simply don't know how to make friends. I'm not mean. I just lack that skill. I think people either assume I'm very aloof or some overly passive idiot.
2. I have poor boundaries and either make myself very distant from others or get overly intense and emotional with them.
3. When people make off handed comments about hanging out, I take them literally even when most people would know they just said it as a gesture.
4. I get extremely overstimulated. Noise, people, being hot, and being hungry especially do it. I csn handle talking for too long and people who talk a lot put me in physical pain. I have had melt-downs and really embarrassed my husband.
5. Changes in plans can cause me to melt down a bit. I actually really enjoy totally unplanned days because I don't have to worry.
6. It's getting harder and harder to be around people even though I do need the social interaction.
7. I'm a but strange and sometimes say the wrong thing.
8. I don't really know what one is supposed to say in many situations.
9. I'm in my 30's and I get along better with people older than me I think because I perceive that they are being more genuine.

Anyway, does this sound like you? How do you deal with it?

Welcome

Ultimately, you would need to see a professional. Some of us may be able to say that some of your points resonate with us, but we are all different.

Welcome! I can relate to some of your points. I was diagnosed by a professional, the diagnosis caught me completely by surprise but totally made sense in retrospect.
