Clothes - Do you like to wear the same outfit?

OK,

Let me preface this with I like to be clean, I shower and shampoo my hair everyday. I like to wear black dress pants and a white shirt. I have to wear a tie to work. In many ways I can relate to Steve Jobs and his dress. Find something that works and stick to it. Yes, if I had my way I would wear jeans everyday and the same shirt. Clean of course, I would have a drawer full of one outfit. I love to wear black.

For work I do. During the summers its my faded Wrangler jeans and my high school football practice shirt with the sleeves cut off. For hanging out with friends then eh, if its a backwoods party then ill wear anything. If we're going to a rodeo, car show, or truck pull then I'll tend to wear the same thing simply because I have very few formal clothing. My Carhartt jeans (cost $30, most expensive clothing I own haha) and a button-up cowboy shirt.

I wear the same few outfits, I've always done that even as a child and my daughter does the same thing. We do change sometimes but we both seem to get stuck on certain outfits for months. At the moment I HAVE to have a hooded top or jacket with pockets to put my hands in so I can do my little hand patterns in public and if I feel myself begin to flap my arms I shove them in my pockets to stop. I have a few pairs of boots and shoes but I'm stuck on a rotation of new rock boots, converse and osiris trainers. My wardrobe is mostly black (about 80%) with a few splashes of colour here and there (mainly purple as I love purple)

Yeah, same few at least. Tends to be flared jeans, Hello Kitty t-shirt which is oversized or a tanktop, flats, and I usually end up in a purple Adidas hoodie. My fore-arms have to be covered by something.

If not this, it's a red dress with boots or flats.

My hair is either straightened or in two braids.

Things that change: jewlery.

I wear:

A pair of shorts or trousers which are either dressy or casual, these can be worn two days in a row.

A t-shirt/ shirt which is different and hopefully, a different color each day, which shorts/ trousers will match to or contrast with, accordingly.

Underwear and socks which is a different pair of each, each day and will match to or contrast rest of outfit accordingly.

I have many pairs of assorted footwear (mostly budget) shoes, boots, dressy, casual; never wear the same pair two days in a row if I don’t have to!

Footwear will also match to or contrast rest of outfit accordingly.

WOW, when I say it like that I realize just how regimented I’m trying to be! I must need order in my life :eekM:

I try to make it simple: a dark (not necessarily black) polo shirt, dark (usually black) Haggar slacks, black socks that I get at Zellers which are really great (I used to get calluses on my feet - no more!), cheap runners to walk to work, nice black shoes once I arrive there.

In general, yes... I do keep to my own "style" in general.

T-shirts (sometimes some kind of band print on it), Cargopants (black or a camo print) or at least some kind of baggy pants, most of the time I wear a hoodie black hoodie as well.

As for shoes, I either wear combat boots, platformboots or a sneakers. In general I do have my preference for sneakers (just don't have those now cause I needed new sneakers badly and I couldn't find a decent pair of Air max classics that matched my usual color mix n match thing). So now I'm wearing a few cheap Vans-replica skaters sneakers of sorts.

And then I got kinda attached to wearing a scarf or sorts and I usually wear some kind of warmers on my forearms/hands. Weirdly enough I'm usually roll up the sleeves on my hoodies, but still have the armwarmer things going on. It's probably where I don't like having a loose kind of clothing on my forearms, and prefer something more tight to be there.

As for socks I tend to have a certain type of black socks. And boxers... I hate the really tight ones.

But that in general is my wardrobe in a nutshell. I tend to change everything but my pants each day. My pants usually go for 2 days or so. As for hoodies; I treat em a bit like a coat, so they don't get washed each week, but I'm not wearing them all the time indoors, so they don't tend to get that messy and smelly that fast.

In the summer I might eventually go for some cargoshorts and a sleeveless shirt, but that's pretty much the most variation I go for.

In general I like to buy new stuff though, even if it's to look for a small variation on the kind of pants I'm wearing... or just for some accesoiries I add in.

However, I do kinda feel that I'm attached to "my clothes" in the way that I feel less comfy if I have to put something else on for, what I don't see as a 'valid" reason. Dressing up for a job would one of those reasons that really gets me out of comfort zone.

Wondering, do any of ya'll go through lengths to not draw attention to yourself?
I used to be a goth-ish girl until like a year ago. Started at age 12. I loved piercings, crazy hair, wore insane stuff. I liked how it looked, I wasn't rebelling against society.

But as I got older I wanted less and less attention drawn to me. These days, my chest has gotten bigger (yeah TMI I'm so confused, I don't know why they're busting out of my shirts) add in the blonde hair, over-sized eyeballs, and ghettobooty and I attract attention no matter what I do. It drives me insane. And I don't even consider myself pretty.
Anyone else hate the stares and changes their dress to prevent it?

Short answer;
No

Long answer;
No

Just kidding :p ... but it's gonna be really long I think (and if you cannot stand a bit of controversy and/or contemporary rockband blasphemy, skip it cause I don't want to hurt peoples feelings over content, but for the sake of the story it has to be included; at some point I'll expect people ask "what did it say?").

I kinda got used to having weird looks about how I look, just like I get weird looks about what I'd say in social situations, weird looks about what music is blaring on my headphones or whatever the ringtone of the week is mine at the moment. Over years, and especially the last 2 to 3 years, I stopped caring about trying to "fit in" and just be me. Just like a lot of things, it relieves a lot of stress if I don't have to mind social convention and dress like I should dress my age (whatever type of weird derivation of popular belief that might be). I'm really not stating that I try to be weird, I just try to be me, and even if I only drop the clothing thing, I'll still get weird looks. In a way it makes it easier to just expect weird looks, lol. At least I don't have to worry why people give me a look anymore.

Besides, I think it's highly impractical to own both a wardrobe for "social convention" and one those other moments. I rather just buy clothes anywhere I want, and wear those instead of being like "I can't wear this because of X". And just taking along in consideration the entire "I don't feel comfy wearing a suit" but I feel less stressed out and more comfy if I just wear the things I usually wear, is pretty much another deal.

However; speaking of clothes and outfits. I've had my really, really big share of clothing and what's "suitable", so here's a true story from my teens (which I might have written down somewhere on this board; or another).

Back, when I was 15, I got more and more into lots of rock music. Yeah, I was into that stuff ever since I was 10 years old, but at some point I had more control over what I wanted to wear, had a job, thus had money and I could buy my own stuff, along with getting some cash from mom & dad. So through some people I got the adress of mail-order service who had catalogues and had a lot of alternative clothing. Probably something that US people might refer to as Hot topic or so. So, I got the catalogue; browsed through it found some designs by bands I liked and ordered some.

For good measure I asked my mom if she thought it was ok that I'd buy some things there, showed her what I wanted to get and she was fine with it.

Hence, I ordered, and got home some shirts. The next day after I got my order, I put on one of the t-shirts, went to school.

I remember having my first class of computer science and it lasted about 15 minutes before the studentcounselor came over to where I was having my class and asked me to leave the class with him for a few minutes for a talk. So at the hallway he was like "can I take a look at your shirt?" So I stood up right a bit and showed him my shirt, which depicted a woman nailed on an inverted cross by metalband Cradle of filth. The back of the shirt said "Desire me like satan". He gave me an odd look and gave me a nod of disapprovement telling me "I cannot accept this". I was like "why?". And he was rambling about how it was "wrong" yet that never got to me. To me it was just a print on a tshirt to show my appreciation for that band. Other people could wear their shirts with brands on it (or even other bands) but they picked out me and told me it was "wrong". Subsequently I got sent home.

I got home and told my mom the deal and she was irked by the fact that they've sent me home and didn't contact her (I was 15 at the time) that there were issues with me. My mom told me "well, put on another shirt, I'll drive you to school". Took another shirt I ordered, put that on, missed about 2 hours of class when I came back in. Ironically enough I was having Social sciences class back then. Went in and the teacher immediatly was like "Can I see your shirt" (as the story about my shirt spread around in the first break). He looked at me and sent me back out, apparently a shirt with a man having smeared lipstick depicted wasn't ok either. Granted, the back said "I'm the god of ****" (which actually is a Charles Manson quote as far as I know; but that stuff isn't that sensitive in Holland in general. The shirt itself was by band Marilyn Manson). Probably they only saw the relation between the word god and **** in one sentence and didn't really put anything in context there. So I got sent out, sat in the hallway a bit and as a precautionairy measure asked the schooljanitor (who was supervising my next 2 hours before school was out), if my shirts were ok to him. He thought they were fine, so I stayed instead of bailing out.

So far for one day (a friday) in my school as a teen. Had my weekend, monday was next. Went shopping with mom over the weekend bought another new shirt.

On monday got sent home again. That ended up cause I was wearing a shirt by band Morbid angel which depicted a rather demonic looking angel with a backprint saying "angel of disease". Yes, it was a female angel and there was a bit of nipple showing. But that, to me was only noticeable if you'd keep staring at it and inspect the print extensively. So, got home, my mom went raging mad over it, went back to school to have a word with the counselor. I was in his office as well, and it ended up with my mom calling him old-fashioned, because according to his statement it was just because he didn't like the image, and the were a bit out of line according to "what's normal". Yet there's no ruling about what's normal. We didn't have uniforms (which funnily enough was something my mom suggested). But apparently I was beyond the norm.

Due to stress I ended up at a therapist because I felt like I had to deal with a variable in life which I didn't understand. "What's correct, and what's not?; and what are the rules for that? Where are they written? Who made them up?" Up to this day I'm still someone who in general doesn't do it to provoke, but just don't really "care" about it. And apparently there's a lot of cases where I am explicitly made to care for it. Perhaps a reason why people don't care for it, is because they do not understand it that much, and they need rules that apply to everyone, at all times.

Anyway, so I took off 2 weeks and my mom reported it to inspection that there's a reason I was taking off a few weeks, and that school had to sort out "their ****" because they're somewhat of a cause I need a therapist.

On a sidenote; my mom kinda likes controversy a bit, but she also believes in "having her way if she thinks it's fair". Thus, after the talk with the counselor, my mom took me to the local newspaper (though it's available through the entire country). So we had a talk with a journalist explaining the deal, later in the day they sent over a photographer for some shots and the next day I was in the newspaper. The day after I got phoned by 3 national newspapers and did an interview through the phone with them about it.

So, after a two week break I went back to school. And yet, school didn't sort it out anyway, because apparently I was still in their crosshairs. This time... I got sent home again... for a shirt that I've been wearing since day 1 of the year. Heck, I even was on the classphoto they made wearing that shirt. This time it was a shirt of the band White Zombie having a cartoonish zombie on the front and 666 mutha****a (in that pseudo-gangsta spelling) on the back. So, apparently wearing what I did before wasn't ok anymore either. The school still didn't have any rules for it though.

The same incident took place 3 times after that all for wearing shirts by Cradle of filth bearing some scantilly dressed women and much like the shirt from the first time probably had some kind of slang on it. I liked the shirts for it. I saw some dark humor in it. But still they couldn't tell me what was wrong, cause no one ever told me "it's wrong cause it depicts nude women in some way", it always was the "I don't like it".At some point my mom went back to school asking the counselor if those women even got him excited and all. He turned a bit red-ish... so that's probably the answer, lol.

However, at some point, after that 2 week break, it went on from one teacher talking to me in private, that each teacher wanted to have his part of the cake. They all had their reasons to not like it. Some teacher thought it was ******** there's attention about it even. At some point it even came down to me reporting at the "teachers lounge" before classes for a inspection of what I was wearing... on a daily basis.

In the end I ended up at the principals office with mom and dad, and my parents walked out on him because he could not bring a valid argument about what was wrong. He just kept to his "just because" and he offered no alternatives about it. Yes, one teacher offered to buy me a plain t-shirt. But I do not want to wear a shirt that I don't like... yes, I might be that decadent of a first world problemmaker, but that's not really solving a problem through legal means either.

In a few weeks the things were going on I got contacted by a journalist from a magazine who did an article about it. That magazine was weirdly enough one where I was featured in an article about clothing, whilst pretty much the entire article was with women WITHOUT clothing. Wasn't a pornomag though.

The only thing I however did in an effort to provoke them was getting my high school diploma wearing a tshirt that said "this is ********" (which I got for free from the company that sold those shirts)

^That's both me and my husband, I wear whatever I want and so does he, I do get stared at but sometimes little comments make it all worth it. Like last year when my hair was bright pink and I went in to watch one of my daughter's lessons, all the kids were pointing and whispering about me, it really freaked me out but then when she could my daughter came over with a big grin on her face and said that everyone thought I was so cool and my hair was the best thing they'd ever seen.

Alot of the kids at school like to copy my husband, so when he started riding in on his chopper custom sprayed like the dukes of hazzard car, kids started asking their parents for chopper bikes. When he got an undercut and some lines shaved in like Genji from crows zero (click for picture of genji) a few weeks later several of the boys started having the same lines shaved in, so I think we dress, act and look younger then our ages.

My husband and I have always gotten strange looks because he's so tall and I'm so short (he's 6'3 I'm 4'11), so dressing like everyone else probably wouldn't make a difference. So we carry on wearing whatever we like, at the moment I usually wear my space invaders hoodie, black jeans and converse and he has black jeans, black and white brogues and a japanese baseball jacket.

I think the funniest thing ever was when lots of the kids were disappointed when he cut off his long hair and stopped dying it black at the same time as he gave up wearing black velvet and a leather coat, they all thought he was a vampire so he shattered a few illusions the day he picked our daughter up with short light hair and a baseball jacket.

I usually wear the same few outfits/styles over and over with changing small things like a t-shirt or a jacket/hoodie. I'm trying to add more variety now though.

I've been told i tend to wear pretty much the same sort of thing. Not identical outfits, but I guess predictable cuts, colors and patterns that make it all look like variations of the same...if that makes any sense. Sometimes ill buy something different, t I honestly rarely will wear it.

I'm like a cartoon character.

I find that once I buy a new outfit/style or whatever, I tend to wear that almost exclusively and neglect all of my other outfits/styles/combos.

I have always tried to dress middle of the road, not stand out or draw attention. As a guy no tattoos or earrings. Just very plain. I am older and that was not done much in my day. Nothing wrong with it but again, no need to draw attention, I do that enough without any help! Thank you very much. Like a magnet with a sign that said, I am here to bully. Got a problem, I am your punching bag.

Teehee I tend to wear the same style a punky/gothy style that's comfortable. I haven't changed my style since I was able to pick out my own clothing in middle school. I tend to wear certain brands only...and often boys clothing because its always bigger and usually more comfortable (just in my opinion) For example I tend to only wear Southpole pants and sweatshirts over t-shirts and Van's tennis shoes, usually in black. My ears are pierced several times and I always wear the same kind of earrings too. I had one person from high school come up to me and tell me I looked exactly the same soo I guess long answer to short question yes yes I do.:cute:

I do this! I actually have very few clothes and the ones I do have- I have multiple sin different colors and I do buy "extras" of even the same color and "set back" cause you know they won't make it very long. I used to wear black almost 100% of the time- especially in college and really didn't even realize it until one day a girl called me "Black widow" because I always wore black. After that I have really TRIED to incorporate color into my wardrobe.

Ever since grade school I was always interested in Different clothes than what everyone else was wearing. One year I refused to wear jeans and only wore corduroys. Before jean jackets became popular, I was the first person in the whole school to be wearing one. I would tye dye my jeans and add embellishments to them. I wore a spiked belt and bracelet and lime green, etc. I have just always worn what I liked. In high school I kept a journal of what I wore everyday down to what LA Gear shoes I was wearing- I had a hard time remembering and this way I could look and then choose something else.

I have went through phases of only wearing dresses, or wearing skirts. Right now I do pretty much wear the same thing. A few years ago when I met my husband I was wearing the same black tank top and shorts and he finally said something. I couldn't believe he of all people cared about what I wore- so once again I try to wear a few different outfits.

Right now I always wear jeans with a patch sewn on the bottom, my brown steel toed boots and one of my Boneyard Choppers T-shirts with a hoodie. I have some other shirts I wear when I am feeling "skinny". In summer I always wear a bandanna- I have about 50 of them, and in the winter I always wear fingerless gloves and a cool knitted hat. I don't wear earrings and very seldom wear jewelry except for my Chevy watch- I wear it ALL the time.

I've been mistaken for a homeless person a couple times while wearing my wrenching clothes

Black pocket T is a must-have for me. Most aspects of my 'look' are refinements after anyone complained - I used to live by Vans slipons, sockless. Jean jacket and black jeans, sweats or trunks. A cop began working my particular neighborhood who must have felt threatened by someone with long hair wearing boardshorts riding a bicycle. Then I read in some Maxim type rag that only convicted felons wear black jeans. I absolutely loathed the whole baggy pants trend and in my particular W/I pretty much everything looks that way. I will only go so far as 'carpenter' jeans but pretty much the only long pants I can deal with are Dickies - black of course. Footwear wise these days I'll go for a cheap pair of Chucks or whatever I can find decent at the thrifts - with black socks. But the shoes I found that have outlasted my last 3 pairs of random in 6 months; they're sort of like 'chick' shoes but have held up to all the abuse I can throw at them - got em at Walmart for $20- basically like Crocs without all the holes in them. Cheap, bulletproof, comfy. Can't stigmatize me on that

I lost weight.
New outfit = skinny jeans and a pink ruffly shirt, or my beige lace dress.
Green Louisiana hoodie if it's cold out.

New nail polish color = green.
I'm usually barefoot.

Yes, normally it is similar dressing. I will purchase in dozens of the same design in tops/shorts when i decide on one. Perhaps with a variation of different colors but same design.

I really have to crack my head when it comes to shopping. So it is most convenient for me to buy in dozens at one go. At least, i live in peace for a few years knowing that i dont have to shop for tops or shorts. I hate shopping!

New main outfit: Green and white striped quarter-sleeve button up. Denim skirt or mini skirt. NorthFace green soft jacked if it's cold. Black flip flops with a flower, or Adidas sneakers (white and green.) Pink bow-ribbon in my big hair or my cowgirl hat. Green nailpolish, tons of jewelry.

It's very summery.
I also wear yoga clothes for morning workout.
