    Nicotine

I'm quickly approaching my fortieth year of using tobacco: cigarettes, cigars, especially the pipe, snuff, dip, snus; if I haven't consumed a particular product, I've probably used something quite like it. I do, however, marvel at how things have changed (mostly for the better) in regards to...

A higher spiritual truth to autism?

Nope. Or at least not necessarily. Some, with the means and capability to humanely take wild game, may choose to do so for reasons of cost, or the taste and/or quality of the meat. I am a thorough-going inner-city boy; it's been decades since I've even carried a firearm, so I don't have a dog...

    New member with a problem

There have been occasions in my life when my deepest concerns and fears have been brushed aside by others. It happens, and that hurts. Thankfully, there have been occasions where my deepest concerns and fears haven't been brushed aside others, times when people went out of their way to accept...

A higher spiritual truth to autism?

Jerry Bergman is a (moderately talented) polemicist who has no respect for opinions or facts unless they can be twisted to serve his arguments for an embarrassingly ignorant and blinkered world-view. Open-mindedness is a virtue, but discernment is a far higher one.

Hmmm...I think that there could be what the kids today call a "teachable moment" here; another thread, another day? Someone here has as their tagline a quotation by Louis CK that I really like: "When a person tells you that you hurt them, you don't get to decide that you didn't."

    Mean People in Forums!

This is about how I perceive political discussions, pretty much every comment section, and more than a few forums. Ever since I saw this video, I can't get too upset because I am imagining all the angry people as the goat...

Do you believe in the possibility of a neuro-diverse renaissance?

A wonderful post Mia. I just had to single out this statement because I often see people who are holding devices in their hands that gives them free access to an incredible amount of knowledge, both current and from the past. And what are they doing with these marvels? Invariably, playing Candy...

My mother keeps comparing me to normies

Not much to work with... Are these interactions troubling non-acceptance or might they be "teaching moments"? Though it sometimes drove me a little batty at the time, I am grateful for the work my parents did in teaching me the basics so I could stand a chance once released into the wild...

My mother keeps comparing me to normies

I contend that no one person is "normal". One of the greatest and most helpful things I have learned is that everyone is a freak, once one gets to know them. It's just that not everyone gets an official label, although that seems to be changing with each new DSM... Me and my need for clarity...

    Mean People in Forums!

The only thing worse than most forums are most comment areas. And of course we are particularly susceptible to a weakness of written communication: if reading between the lines is a challenge face-to-face, it's all but impossible while reading. I really have to be thoughtful about the media I...
