@Misty Avich good for you to stay home when you're sick. I think it's really annoying that people have this expectation to come to work when you're sick. You give your illness to everyone else, and you can't recover properly.

Anyone else's skin feels prickly and uncomfortable each time they're sick, and especially when they're running a temperature? Usually, I have no problems with skin sensitivity, but right now, it feels like everything prickles and touch is uncomfortable. It's always been this way. Interesting...

What is the percentage of people with autism that have cars/drivers license? because i've noticed that a lot of people with autism don't drive

I can only speak for myself. I have a driver's license, no car and avoid to drive when I can. I fairly like the mechanics of driving, but I hate to deal with the other drivers on the road. Everything's so hectic and needs to happen straight away. It often takes me a bit to process things. Also...

Why do people always seem so happy and positive in social settings?

I think it also depends a bit on the situation. Sometimes I meet friends and I'm in a bad mood, and showing it and talking about helps me. In that case, my friends are more than willing to share my worries and to discuss it. Sometimes, I feel bad but feel like meeting a friend might make me feel...

Why do people always seem so happy and positive in social settings?

I think you're generalizing too much there. Many of us might be introverts, but so are a lot of NTs. Also, the neurotype doesn't equal the entire personality. Some people experience emotions more intensely than others, some people find it harder to play over their feelings and put on a happy...

I'm terrified but I also really wanna do this

I thought that I'd write a closing post in this thread. I'm leaving the day after tomorrow, and I'm really quite sad to leave the dogs, the cats and the place in general behind. I'm looking forward to going back home, but at the same time, it's really hard to leave. This place is/was special...

Thank god for text messages! The person I worked with for the past 2 months just said goodbye to me unexpectedly before leaving, and I just managed to smile and nod but was somehow socially blocked for more because I was caught off guard. So I sent a message with the things I wanted to say.

    Northern lights anybody?

Unfo Unfortunately not, since by this time of year it's too bright here, and the sky was covered in clouds anyway - bad luck. But I was lucky enough to see Northern lights a few weeks ago, so I'm not too disappointed

I just managed 10 normal push-ups for the first time! Also, I can highly recommend to watch "Schitt's Creek" - it's hilarious, deep and lovely, and has some (inofficial) ND characters whose portrayals I just love.

    medication

There's a reason why stimulants such as Ritalin are prescription drugs. They should be monitored, both for your own health as well as to limit illegal trafficking. To underline it: In my country, even I, as a medical doctor, can't just go to a pharmacy and buy methylphenidate (Ritalin), but I...

My family reacts to my increasing unmasking by suggesting a head scan because "suddenly noises bother you when they didn't before". I want to scream that they always bothered me, I just never showed it. I know they mean well, but those reactions make me angry and hurt me. I don't want those...

What is the difference between "safe foods" and food preferences?

Interesting, I thought that it would be more "a thing". I've heard it several times in videos about autism. Like, someone experiencing high distress over some change and therefore only eat "safe foods" for a week because anything else would cause too much texture discomfort. An often mentioned...

What is the difference between "safe foods" and food preferences?

I don't think that "safe" in this context means healthy or anything. As far as I know, it's more about foods that taste and feel the same all the time, and apparently they're often highly processed foods. I heard the term often in the context of autism, and I'm curious about it.

What is the difference between "safe foods" and food preferences?

Do some of you have safe foods, and, if so, what's the difference to "normal" food preferences? I know it's foods that always feel safe to eat and don't cause texture or flavor discomfort. I have many foods I dislike (usually for texture reasons), so especially when I'm alone, I also tend to...
